BTS' Skool Luv Affair - Album Listening Party (Livestream: 2.5 Hours)

Comments

That reaction is already legendary 😄 Wish the boys could see it😀

Hey Max! Loved the reaction. I have an interesting suggestion, you can listen on your own time but I would also love to hear your analysis. RM was on a podcast (Intersections: Art Basel Project) about a month ago where he talks about his love of art (he's becoming well known as an art collector) but he also talks a lot about his music and his past. It's a really interesting listen because you can draw parallels about how he interprets the art and how he feels about bts in this present moment. I'd love if u could check it out with us :)

Just wanted to drop in to say it was another fun live! Looking forward to tRoB next week!!

Just a comment t about “where you from” is that they are singing in dialect, that’s why they make so much énfasis in the place where they are from. About the hyung thing, they say it just as much now, but as you watched English interviews more recently perhaps that’s why you didn’t notice? And as someone said in the stream as well , if the subs are not fan made they replace hyung with the name of the person.

Barbi Duarte

Like someone said in the chat you just notice how they use Hyung more often now because you see more Fan made translations. That's one of the reason why I prefer those. Fans put the names exactly how they said it, with honorifics, nicknames etc. Official ones will just put the names, sometimes even their stage names when they used their real names.

I think people give B-free and that interview a bit too much credit. It wasn't the first time, nor was it the last or even the worst bts rap line had gotten from the underground rap community, it's just the most known and public. RM and Suga had been open about the amount of hate they had gotten from the underground rap community even before that interview. Even their old friends and people they made music with turned on them, and I'm sure that bothered them way more than some random interview.

Elsa

As far as bts using "Hyung" goes, they do actually drop it pretty often. For example Jungkook tends to drop the "hyung" more often than not when talking to Jimin etc. I guess it depends on who they are talking to out of the members and when, it doesn't seem like they think about it too deeply.

Elsa

I am really loving these album reactions👏🏻

MintChoco

I simply had to go back and watch your Cypher 2 reaction again. Priceless 😄

AlinaMaria

That's why it's nice that the Chat can go on in the comments.😊

Thank you for the very detailled explanations. I knew most of the language, honorifics aspects, you really just piece it together by hearing them enough.😅 I didn't know they've made changes because of the n-Word misunderstandings. It is really unfortunate. They cannot and shouldn't change their language but it is really irritating to me. Just one day is a song I actually like but cannot listen to because of that reason. It actually sounds even closer to the German word. 🙈

Lina

I just finished binging all the purple tier lives, so much fun I couldn't stop watching! Really enjoy your reactions as you analyse in a different way than what I have seen from other BTS reaction videos on YouTube. I guess I must be interested in communication too and I love BTS so it's a perfect combo really. It's making me realise more and more that the way BTS communicate with each other and the world is really special. And Just One day is also my favourite on this album, a bit of a quiet achiever and the cute chair choreo really enhances it. Highly recommend checking out the Bang Bang Con 2020 performance of it. Unfortunately due to the time difference I'll probably never be able to join live, but I often find myself wanting to add things in the chat while I'm watching the recordings!

-ssi vs -hyung | When people first meet they would use the suffix -ssi (sir) at the end of their names. As they get closer, one will let the other know that it’s okay to use hyung(brother) as a sign of closeness. When people say formalities get dropped when they’re very close they usually mean from ssi to hyung because that’s just how the language works. Not using the term is generally disrespectful.. however they will drop it to tease/joke occasionally, but it’s sparingly done. (it can be done the other way as well, Jungkook teases Jimin by calling him Jimin-ssi sometimes.) Context and cultural nuances are important. Maybe certain people do it off camera more often depending on whos involved, but I don’t think it’s super common and it’s definitely not something they do often on camera especially due to their public influence on their own culture. If you remember, Soobin said in his youngji video that bighit (bts’ company) was very strict about it, even one year up and one year down. The other variations are oppa (younger female to older male), noona (younger male to older female), and unnie (younger female to older female). -ie vs -ah | They add -ie when talking about someone “hoseokie-hyung and jungkookie did this” and an -ah when talking to the person directly “jimin-ah can you grab me this” which is often misunderstood as a nickname. Once again, it’s typically dropped when they translate it. Misheard words | There are a few common korean words (I, You, Me) that sound like the english slur and they have changed lyrics before when performing on American Award shows to avoid misunderstandings. It’s also been censored on the radio even though it’s a Korean word which has caused online discourse.
