Roger Corman Drops by the Drive-In (August 1990)

Happy Splatterday Night, Patreon Pals!

Today was a loooong (but awesome! 🥰) day at Days of the Dead, but I wouldn’t let you go without your JB fix! Since it is the anniversary of the release date of The Howling, I figured I’d go ahead and post about...Howling 4! (Close enough, right? 😉) More importantly, though, we’ve got JB conversing with one of his biggest heroes (and the person who inspired our Mutant Fest film festival & another lil’ project JB’s gonna be announcing soon 😉), Mr. Roger Corman!

Roger stopped by Drive-In Theater for several weeks  in August of 1990 to drop some wisdom upon us all. (In the first segment they discuss Halloween 3, so you know this one’s a banger! 😋) They’re all just intros, which is a lil’ unusual, but JB said he suspects they were handling things a bit differently that month to go along with their big “418 Movies in a Row Without Repeating One” promo. I will need to do some digging to find out if that was indeed the case, but the interview bits are priceless, regardless.

Here are the cheat codes fer ya if you want to skip ahead. 😉 Enjoy tearing the 🖤 outta Saturday Night, Mutants!

6:05 Summer Job (Air Date 8/11/90)

I could listen to Roger talk movies with JBB for hours and not get bored. Loved this

I had never heard Roger Corman interviewed until this past season of The Last Drive In. He's absolutely fascinating to listen to, and I could listen to him discuss Hollywood all day. He truly has the pulse of what audiences want and always knows how to deliver it.

Oh my goodness. This was the best ever. Roger Corman is truly an American icon.

wonderful!

Roger Corman has just the absolute best voice. Seriously.

Roger Corman is a ‘god’!! Dementia 13 and Little Shop of Horrors are still incredible to watch even to this day! Not to mention Humanoids from the Deep, Star Crash, Death Race 2050, forbidden world....the list goes on and on!!

I love Roger. He is a perfect example of hard work and inventive filmmaking. Big budget pictures have their place but Roger Corman paved the way.

Wow! Thank you for this one! -Marty

Not the most definitive of research but I have a document people corroborated newsletter information (We Are the Weird and The Joe Bob Report) on when it comes to Drive-in Theater. They make it clear that they are unverified so I'd take it with a grain of salt but they mention possible showings of Out of the Dark on August 4, My Mom's a Werewolf on August 11 and Cherry 2000 on August 18. Probably just false information but something worth looking into!

This is amazing. I struck by Roger's fantastic voice, and also how much he would look like modern day Jimmy Page if you put a long gray wig on him.

Glad you enjoyed it, Isaiah! 🥰🖤

I know! It’s so soothing! I could listen to him talk for hours! 🖤

I enjoyed that. Roger Corman has got such a smooth voice it's perfect for a Sunday morning.

This was such a fun watch, I always enjoy seeing Roger Corman talk about making movies. So this is priceless.
