I actually listened to the Case for Christ on audible a number of years ago, so I'm super excited that you're breaking it down. I seem to remember a lot of chapters being something like this (but it was a fair while ago, so my memories of it might be inaccurate): 'there were childrens pictures on the wall/the smell of fresh coffee/other needless details to make the interviewee seem more trustworthy to a certain type of reader. "is the bible true?" "it's totally true" "what about X" "well some people do say X... but actually it's totally true"'

But I knew he had a huge ego so it's not as much of a surprise as it should have been. Still, am I to "abandon" his science? Are his books not any good any more? Am I not supposed to listen to Wagner because he was insufferable as a person? And as you said, who was looking to Krauss for moral leadership? But ... it is most annoying Krauss is a jerk.
