Kronosaurus was a large genus of short-necked pliosaur that lived during the Early Cretaceous period, around 125–100 million years ago. Belonging to the order Plesiosauria, Kronosaurus was a marine reptile, not a dinosaur, and is known for its massive skull—reaching over 2.5 meters long—with powerful jaws lined with conical, interlocking teeth suited for grasping slippery prey like fish, squid, and other marine reptiles. Estimates of its total body length vary, but it likely measured around 9–10.5 meters. Fossils have been found in Australia and Colombia, suggesting a wide distribution. As an apex predator of its time, Kronosaurus occupied a similar ecological role to modern orcas.
