Looking back, had Mom's punishment been all that bad? Sure, I had freaked out a couple of times, but I mean, if I'd learned anything, girl's clothes were just... clothes. When Mikey wasn't making fun of me or Mom wasn't dragging me out in public against my will, I even kind of like dressing up. I guess being humiliated over and over had been the real punishment, because now here I was, sitting around in public dressing and acting like a girl, and it was... well, it felt pretty normal. Good, even.

I must have looked completely lost as I came to these realizations all at once because Mom reached out and put her hand on mine reassuringly."What I'm trying to say is... I never thought putting you in dresses would lead to this, but... Danny... I think you owe it to yourself to give life as Danielle an honest shot."

I could feel my mouth opening and closing but no words would come out.

"Not as a punishment, but in reality. I think you might really surprise yourself if you were allowed to try life as a girl on your own terms." Mom smiled and wiped a tear from her eye.

"I'll do it."

I gasped, pressing a hand over my mouth, eyes wide. The words had just popped out.

It made no sense, but deep down, I had to admit... something about it just felt right. Mom's punishment was over, but I was going to being Danielle, all my life.
