Scott was still sleeping when I woke up. I quietly got out of bed and picked up my maid’s uniform from the floor, as well as Scott’s clothes.
I went into the bathroom and took a shower, and changed into something casual. By this time, Scott was stirring, and I said good morning to him as he smiled at me.
“You never cease to amaze me, Dani, a French maid outfit? I would have never guessed. Please remember to pack it when we return home.”
I just smiled and said, “Take a shower and meet me upstairs for breakfast.”
I went upstairs and found Mom sitting at the kitchen table, reading the newspaper. Anything new? I asked. No, she replied, just the same boring stories.
I wanted to ask you. I would like you to give me away at my wedding since I don’t have a father. Mom replied I might have said yes, Danielle, but this will be quite the formal occasion from what I can see; however, I have another idea I would like to run by you. You have met Richard, and he and I are becoming quite serious in our relationship with each other. He hasn’t proposed to me yet, but I know he will be asking for my hand very soon. Given that he will become your stepfather, would you consider that he walks you down the aisle and gives you away to Scott?
Wow! Mom! What a great idea! Richard will be coming over for lunch, and you can ask him if he would give you away at the wedding. I poured myself a coffee, and we chatted until Scott walked into the kitchen. Help yourself to some coffee Scott, and I can make everyone breakfast if you all agree. Waffles, French toast, or eggs?
Scott smiled and said, since you were quite the sexy French maid last night, I say French toast. Mom almost choked while drinking her coffee when he said that, and we all laughed.
I told mom that Scott enjoyed me wearing the outfit, and she laughed and said she could only imagine. I asked her if I could take one home, and she smiled and told me, you can take them all home if you like. Scott was now very interested. Why do you have so many maids’ outfits, Danielle? I blushed and told him; I was a maid for Mrs. LaRue when I first lived here. She thought I should earn an extra income and wanted me to discover my true self, and the maid’s uniform did both things for me.
Scott smiled; Hmm. I told him not to get any ideas. But I will wear one now and then just for you, Scott.
I walked over to the fridge and got out the eggs, and started making French toast for everyone. We all enjoyed breakfast, and I rinsed the plates and loaded the dishwasher after breakfast.
Ms. LaRue was quite interested in Scott. She asked him all sorts of questions about his life and family, and Scott found out a little more about my background as well with Ms. LaRue. I know I should call her mom instead, but I am so used to calling her by Ms. LaRue, it’s a hard habit to shake.
Ms. LaRue got a phone call from the store, and they told her there was an urgent issue, and she apologized to us, as she had to go to work. Please stay around and wait for Richard to drop by; he wants to talk to both of you.
After mom left for the store, we walked outside and had another coffee on the patio. This is a lovely yard, remarked Scott, all you need is a swimming pool. I thought that would have been nice too, but I always swam in the school’s pool while I lived here.
I told Scott about mom’s offer to have Richard give me away at the wedding. Mom didn’t feel it was appropriate for her since the father gave away the bride. It sounds like a good idea to me said Scott, and I had to agree with him.
Richard showed up around 11, and we let him in. We chatted for a while, and he began to tell us that he had fallen in love with mom and was going to ask her to marry him. I asked Richard if he would consider giving me away at my wedding, and he told me that he would be honored to walk me down the aisle. I hugged and kissed him with joy.
Mom phoned from the store. She explained that she wouldn’t be back today any time soon, and it looked like she would be busy for the rest of the week. She apologized for leaving so abruptly. I will be here all day to correct some significant operational issues at the new store. I told Scott, and he smiled and said, since your mom is busy, our jet is on standby at the airport. We can leave for home if you like, and we will see your mom again at the wedding. I told mom it was fine, and we would see her at my wedding, and I ended the call.
I told Richard that mom was waiting for him to propose to her and not waste any time. If he wanted my blessing, he had it, and Scott told him if it makes any difference, you have my approval as well. We all laughed. Richard smiled and thanked us. I know she is a busy woman, and it looks like I will have to rope her in so I can ask her hand in marriage. I was going to ask her in front of you this morning, as he reached in his pocket and pulled out a ring box. It was a beautiful ring, too, and we wished him luck. I would suggest that you take her out for dinner tonight, then ask her for her hand.
Richard said goodbye, and we went back to my suite to do our packing. I showed Scott my maid outfits, and he said, take them all since I might damage one while ravishing you.
We called a limo to the airport, and within an hour, we were in the air heading back to Sacramento. Flying in the private jet was a little unnerving at first. It had a smaller cabin than a commercial jet but was much more luxurious. I played flight attendant, and we made out at 30,000 feet. A great time was had by the both of us.
Three and a half hours later, we touched down in Sacramento. We pulled our bags to where Scott’s car was parked and made our way back to the condo.
On Monday morning, my phone rang, and it was mom. She was crying, and I said, Mom, what’s wrong? Why are you crying? She told me that Richard proposed to her on the night we left Des Moines. Mom was crying since she was so happy. She had honestly thought she would never be married, but you never know which way life will turn. That’s excellent news, mom; I am happy for you. Richard is a good man and will make a great husband, and you have the bonus of a new step-daughter. We talked a bit longer, and she told me she would see me on Friday when they all would fly in for my wedding.
Scott and I enjoyed each other’s company for the rest of the week, and then on Saturday afternoon, there was a bridal shower for Betty and me. Saturday evening was our bridal party, aka. “The Girl’s Night Out” party and Scott had a stag party on the same night.
During the Saturday afternoon bridal party, I received many gifts from all the family members and met most of Scott’s relatives. To say they had a big family was an understatement. Scott’s grandparents on both sides of his family had at least eight children each. We used their country club hall for our bridal party as there were so many women in this family; there must have been over 100 women there. Betty had many friends as well, and Valerie had invited many friends too.
And later that night, we all acted like silly girls. After dinner, the bridal party girls all went over for a girl’s night at a local strip club, and there were many magic-mike-type dancers there. I can’t believe how poorly a bunch of drunken girls will act when nearly naked men are dancing in front of them, but I was just as guilty as the rest. No, I’m not proud of what I did, but I sure got drunk (for someone underage) and must have passed along maybe 50 one-dollar bills to the strippers. They wanted to dance in front of Betty and me, and we were both having a fun time. Sure, they were muscular hunks, and many were well endowed, but Scott was still my man.
The next day, I got up late with a terrible hangover. I took a few painkillers and got up, and made some coffee and breakfast. I figured that Scott would be in worse shape than I was, and I didn’t hear from him until the afternoon. He dragged himself down to my place, and he looked rough, to put it politely. I made him some breakfast and fresh coffee. Afterward, we both just relaxed and recovered for the rest of the afternoon. I asked Scott what happened at his stag party, and he smiled and replied, what happens at the Stag party, stays at the Stag party. He didn’t ask me any questions about my night out either, so I called it a draw.
On Wednesday evening, Scott and I went over to the church for a wedding rehearsal on Saturday. We talked to Pastor William about wedding vows and our ceremony under God. Betty and Frank were also there, and we had several questions for the Pastor, and he answered all of them. As for wedding vows, he gave us several examples of vows and said it is up to the couple, and we would decide what we wanted to include in our vows. He just asked us to email the vows to him by Friday afternoon. And if we had any further questions to call him.
We then rehearsed the wedding and showed where everyone would be seated, as well as the groomsmen would do double-duty as ushers for the wedding guests. He showed us the room where the brides would get ready and how the fathers would walk us down the aisle.
Everyone would be standing In front of the altar, and he showed the wedding party where they would stand as well as the bridesmaids and the best men. It was a good thing this was a big church since there were 20 people and the Pastor in the front. The flower girls and the ring bearer boys would sit in the front row after they had performed their duties. The flower girls would both have baskets of rose petals which they would scatter in front of the brides as we walked up the aisle. The Ring-bearers would each carry the wedding bands tied to a pillow. Their job was to bring this cushion to the best man, who would remove them. When the ceremony started, the procession of bridesmaids would walk up the aisle first, followed by the groomsmen. The best men would accompany the grooms up to the altar as well. Once everyone was in position, the music would start, and the flower girls and ring bearers would follow. Then the first bride and her father, Betty and Mr. Jonsson, would proceed down the aisle. After Betty was at the altar beside Frank, her father would be seated at the Jonsson family area with Mrs. Jonsson. When Betty was halfway down to the altar, I would proceed up the aisle, escorted by Richard. He would leave me beside Scott and sit with Ms. LaRue and my friends.
Then the marriage ceremony would start. Betty and Frank would go first, and Scott and I would go second. The congregation would hold any applause until both our traditions were complete. We ran through it, and after the ceremony was over, the wedding party would leave down the aisle first, followed by the two new married couples. We would then go to the little room at the back and sign all the marriage documents. By then, the guests would be in front of the church, and we would come outside where they would throw confetti and rice at us for good luck. The complete wedding party and we would walk down to the waiting limos and drive over to the photographer’s studio for the wedding party photos. Eventually, we would make it over to the country club, where everyone would be waiting for us in a vast ballroom.
On Thursday, we went into the bridal shop to get our wedding gowns and the bridesmaids’ dresses. We tried everything on, and they did a great job since my gown fit perfectly. No one had any issues, so we took our wedding gowns and the bridesmaid dresses home for the wedding. We all stopped at a restaurant for a quick dinner, and we wished each other good luck for the wedding. The weather forecast for Saturday was sunny and clear, and I didn’t expect it to be any different as it hadn’t rained in a couple of weeks now.
Mom, Richard, and Cindy flew in Friday afternoon, and Scott and I picked them up at the airport. After kissing me, the first thing mom did was to show me her engagement ring, and I think she was still in shock with disbelief.
We used my car since it had more luggage room in the trunk. I let Scott drive so I could talk with everyone. Scott took us back to my condo, and we set them up in my spare bedroom. I received phone calls from the friends I had invited to the wedding and had made reservations for everyone at the Marriot where I had stayed when I first came to Sacramento. My best friends from high school, Beth and Torri, came with their boyfriends and the Atlanta girls, Jennifer, Christy, Connie, Virginia, and of course Stephanie. The girls from the Amelia boutique and Ms. Verdot and her companion phoned me that they had made it in town. I told them all to send me a receipt for their flight as the Jonsson’s would cover the airfare and taxi and the hotel for everyone.
I set up mom and Richard in my spare bedroom and told Cindy to sleep with me.
I called all my guests and told them to meet us at a local restaurant where we had a fine dinner, and everyone got to meet Scott. Dinner was also on the Jonsson’s.
We had a great time and caught up with each other. My guests all told Scott that he was the lucky one to have caught me for his bride. They were impressed with Scott as well, and he was the perfect gentleman. We all bid each other goodnight, and I told them I would see them all again tomorrow at the wedding.
I returned to the condo with Mom, Richard, Cindy, and Scott, and we went over our wedding vows. We both agreed on what we would like to say to each other, and we emailed them to Pastor William.
We chatted for the rest of the evening. I kissed Scott goodnight, and he went upstairs to his condo. We then got ready for bed.
Cindy was excited to sleep with me, and we sat in the dark quietly talking to each other until she fell asleep. She is such a cute girl too, and I turned on my side and quickly fell asleep as well.
The Wedding Day had arrived. I tried not to think about it last night, and I woke up after a good night’s sleep. As I got up, Cindy also woke up. I told her she could use the bathroom first if she wanted, I would go out to the kitchen and start the coffee maker.
Walking to the kitchen, I was thinking, today I am getting married. Am I too young to be doing this? Most women these days don’t even want to get married until they are 30. Then I thought of my mom and dad. They were sweethearts out of high school. My mom married him when she was 18, and he was 19. And after they were married for a year, he decided to join the military to make more money than a minimum wage job. Two years later, he was sent to Iraq and was one of the few US soldiers killed there. My mom was devastated and found out she was pregnant with me. She couldn’t handle it alone and later took her life. I always wondered if things would have been different had my dad had better luck and returned from Iraq. Well, enough about me. Time to make some coffee.
I started up the coffee and poured myself a glass of orange juice. I turned on my laptop and read some news, and eventually, Mom, Richard, and Cindy appeared.
Coffee is ready if you want some, and cream is in the fridge. There is also orange juice and apple juice in there too.
I got up to make some breakfast and asked if anyone wanted French toast. I heard a bunch of yes pleases, so I immediately got to making some up.
We sat there and enjoyed breakfast, and Mom asked me if I was ready for the big day. I said yes and no. I am excited, and everything is a go for the wedding, but I wonder if I am too young to be married. Mom looked at me and said, do you love this boy? I said yes. Is there anyone else? I said no. If you wait, do you think you could do better than you have at finding a guy? I said no. She just smiled and enjoyed her coffee.
I received a call from Betty, and she asked me how I was doing. I told her I was nervous about everything, and she admitted she felt the same way as I did. I told her if we backed out now, her mom would have us hunted down and shot, and she laughed, saying that’s not so far from reality. Then we had better go ahead with it; I will see you at the church at one pm. Betty told me, Danielle, thank you for deciding to do this with me, as I appreciate it. I replied it was my pleasure, and we both ended the call.
I wasn’t going to get changed into the wedding dress until we got to the church, so I left it in its garment bag. I had an appointment at the beauty salon at ten and would be getting my hair, makeup, and nails done for the wedding. Mom was going to go with me, and we would both get a makeover together.
I had a shower and dressed in something casual, and mom and I went over to the salon. They took us in right away, and we both received the complete makeover treatment. I told mom that this was the first time we had gone to a salon together for a makeover, and she smiled. When the girls finished with me, I looked stunning! I was wearing a new set of nails, polished in a classic French manicure style. They even did my toenails to match! My hair had fresh highlights, and my stylist had softly curled so it would be a little wavy as it fell to mid-shoulder length. They also made sure there were clips in my hair so it wouldn’t fall over my face. My makeup was excellent, and they had outdone themselves. I wore a bit of light blue eyeshadow that would match the bridesmaid dresses, as I thought that was a cute touch as well as silver blended in. My eyebrows were perfect as well, and they put on beautiful eyelash extensions.
Mom looked great too. She was never one for going to a salon to get a makeover, but I think she did it for me, as well as Richard since they would be getting married soon.
We went back to my condo, and I started loading my trunk with my wedding dress and a bag of makeup in case I needed to touch up. Mom, Richard, and Cindy got changed into their finery, and they all looked great. Mom was wearing a dazzling evening dress, Cindy wore a beautiful dress, and Richard looked splendid in a classic tuxedo. Are you ready to walk me down the aisle, Richard? He just smiled and gave me a thumbs up.
We drove over to the church, and I gave my keys to Richard to take himself, Mom, and Cindy to the photographers, reception, and return to my condo afterward.
I brought my dress into the little back room and found Betty was already there. We hugged and kissed, and all the bridesmaids helped us get into our gowns. I heard a knock on the door, and we said, who is it? Scott replied and said, it’s me. We all told him in unison, Go away! It’s bad luck to see the bride before the wedding. And we all laughed together. At least I knew he wouldn’t be a no-show for the wedding.
We stayed in our room until they told us that the ceremony was about to start. The bridesmaids went out on their cue, and then Betty and I began to put on our final touches. We helped each other put on our veils and stepped into the hallway with the flower girls. The ring bearers and Mr. Jonsson and Richard were both waiting to escort us down the aisle. They both told us we looked splendid.
We were both given our wedding bouquets, and we were ready to go down the aisle. We heard the wedding march music start-up. The doors opened for us. The children went through first, the two flower girls, and then the ring bearers. Mr. Jonsson held on to Betty and went next, and when Betty and her father were halfway down the aisle, Richard and I followed them.
I hadn’t been inside the church since the rehearsal, and the change was incredible. Mrs. Jonsson had people working there all night, setting up flower arrangements and decorations everywhere. There was an enormous red carpet running down the central aisle to the altar, and I looked down to see the pink rose petals all over it. As we approached the alter, everyone in the church turned towards us. I tried to stay serious, but I had to smile; I couldn’t help it. There were photographers and videographers taking pictures and footage of us. I couldn’t help but think that this was a true spectacle.
I looked towards the altar and saw Scott and Frank waiting for us to arrive, and they both looked magnificent, standing there together, along with the bridal party.
Scott gave me a big smile as I got closer. As I approached, I watched the ring bearers hand their pillows to the best man for each groom, and then they sat beside the flower girls.
I watched Mr. Jonsson leave Betty beside Frank, and he shook Frank’s hand before he returned to sit beside Mrs. Jonsson, who was already crying.
I walked up beside Scott, and he whispered to me that I looked stunning. Richard shook Scott’s hand, and he left me to sit beside mom, who I figured was probably crying as much as Valerie was.
I must be honest. I was in such a daze that I barely remember the ceremony after that. Then it was our turn to say our wedding vows. We also had a microphone in front of us so that the entire church would hear us, and I prayed that I wouldn’t mess up my vows.
Pastor William started and told us to repeat after him, and I got through the vows. Then he told us to put on our wedding bands, and Scott’s best man came forward with them. Scott placed one ring on my finger, and I set the other one on his finger. Then the Pastor told Scott, you may now kiss the bride. He slowly lifted my veil over my head, and we both gave each other a warm kiss and embraced what was appropriate for a church. Everyone in the church clapped once we had finished. We then walked up the aisle with Betty and Frank to one of the small rooms in the back of the church, where we signed the wedding documents.
Once we completed signing the paperwork, Betty and I took our bouquets and joining Scott and Frank, and we left the church as two new married couples. Everyone was waiting for us on the steps, and Betty and I tossed our bouquets to the crowd of girls that had gathered to catch them. Everyone congratulated us, and we smiled as they threw confetti and rice at us. The limos were waiting at the curb, and we got into the first one with Betty and Frank. The bridal party got into the remaining four limos that would follow us to the photographer’s studio. I told Richard, Mom, and Cindy that they were also invited to the studio and follow us there.
Once we got to the studio, it was like a day at work for me. They set us up and took many photos of us, and I made sure I caught the light and gave them my best poses for the camera. They also took pictures of my brides’ maids and me and Scott with his grooms. We had the young girls in the shots with us, too, as well as the boys. Mom, Richard, and Cindy were in a picture with Scott and me, and then we all took one with Scott and me with Betty and Frank, with our parents sitting in front. Finally, we went to a large studio where we got a group shot of everyone standing together. After the photographers had completed their shoot, it was time to go to the country club for the wedding reception, which had already started.
We piled back into the limos and headed off, with Mom, Richard, and Cindy following behind along with the other parents.
The reception was superb. We drove up in style, and we entered as a group. People were laughing and clapping for us as we entered the ballroom, and people were congratulating us non-stop. We formed a wedding reception line, and people came up and congratulated us, one by one. The Jonsson’s, my family, and Franks’ family congratulated us first. My friends Beth and Torri congratulated me from school, Madge, June, and Ms. Verdot from Amelia’s, Cindy Rome, and a few other girls from the agency. Jennifer, Christy, Connie, little Stephanie, and Virginia from Atlanta also told me how proud they were. Many people had brought us gifts and envelopes, and Betty and I had a table set up for wedding presents. It was just so overwhelming. Eventually, we were able to sit at the head table. Our parents all sat at one table right in front of us. They were getting along well. Cindy and Stephanie were able to score a table with the other kids their age, and they were having a great time as well.
I was introduced to all the members of the wedding party again. Scott’s best man was his best friend in college, and his name was Colin Stafford. He was as friendly as Scott, and they were good friends. I met all of Betty’s wedding party too. So many names, and it was hard to keep them all straight.
Scott brought me over a glass of wine, and the waiters served us some appetizers. We enjoyed talking to everyone, and people would continually stop in front and speak to us. Everyone was so friendly, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
We eventually were all seated, and they began to serve us dinner, asking us our choice of entrée. Our entrées were delicious, as the catering was top-notch. The waiters kept our glasses filled and removed our empty plates. We got through the desert, and coffee and then it was time for speeches. Mr. Jonsson went first and delivered a beautiful speech telling everyone how proud he was of his children and how they always liked to do everything together, including their wedding. Ms. LaRue got up and made a little speech telling me how proud she was of me. Frank’s dad made a speech as well, saying how proud he was of his son. Then the best men gave their addresses, as well as a couple of the bridesmaids. Scott and Frank both got up and made a speech about their new wives, and Betty and I also gave a short speech about our fine husbands. Then any friends or family were able to say a few words. I was surprised when Jennifer stepped forward and gave a speech telling us how she had made a life-long friend when she met me. I was blushing by the end of her address; it was so touching.
After the speeches, we walked over to cut this enormous wedding cake. Betty and Frank were at one end, with Scott and I at the other. On the count of 3, we both sliced into it, and everyone clapped. The chefs took over and served wedding cake to everyone.
Eventually, it was time for our first dance. Mr. Jonsson and Richard both got up and escorted us to the dance floor. The Blue Danube waltz music started, and we began to waltz around the room. After a minute or so, Scott walked up and cut in, and we continued our dance. The groomsmen and bridesmaids all joined in, and the entire bridal party was out waltzing around the dance floor. As I was smiling up at Scott, my mind returned to the old Cinderella movie, and I felt like a princess. Scott kept telling me that I was the most beautiful woman in the room, and he kept kissing me throughout the dance. The next dance was to more modern music, and other people stepped out and danced as well. Scott and I danced to a few more songs, and then we went back for a short break. I had enough time for a bit of water before Frank asked me to dance, and Scott asked Betty. We changed dance partners for the rest of the evening. I was tired, but I kept going and danced with many of the guests. It was fun.
The night’s end was approaching, and Mom, Richard, and Cindy had already left since Cindy was falling asleep. The Atlanta crew wished me a happy honeymoon, and they went as well.
Along with Betty and Frank, Scott and I waved goodbye to everyone, and we left the reception. We got into a waiting limo, and they drove us back to our condo, where we said goodnight to Betty and Frank.
I told Betty to call me in the morning, and we kissed goodnight.
Scott and I went into the condo, and we went up to his suite. Scott opened the door, picked me up with ease, and walked over the threshold with me in his arms. The honeymoon would start tomorrow, but tonight, the passion was only beginning as we slowly kissed each other.
