As normal I awoke early. I groaned lightly as I sat up and pulled my cover back, I slid my feet into my slippers and trudged downstairs to get some food and a cup of coffee. I was only mildly surprised to see Ellie sat at the breakfast bar, already looking ready to take on the day. "Morning" I grumbled as I poured myself some cereal before grabbing a cup of coffee. "Hey love...you sleep well?" Ellie asked brightly. I nodded quickly before settling into my breakfast. "Yeah, I think the alcohol had something to do with it though" I murmured.
My aunt looked at me thoughtfully for a minute. "Do you want me to do something with your hair before you head out to school?" she asked simply. I thought about it for a second, "Depends on what were you thinking?" I asked cautiously, I was very much aware that one of my aunt's businesses was a salon and she was more than capable of doing my hair up nicely, I wasn't sure what she could do without the salon equipment though, I was going to ask her about it, but she broached the subject first, "Well, I don't have my kit with me, so it wouldn't be anything too fancy, but your mom has some decent scissors we can use" she smiled confidently. Again, I thought for a moment before nodding, "Yeah, ok then. I'll finish my breakfast and jump through the shower quick".
So after finishing my food, I headed up to my room and was glad to see that Jake had indeed looked at the water pressure in my bathroom, he'd even had a fiddle with the toilet in there, so that it was now usable too. Although I washed quickly, I spent an extra ten minutes just enjoying the hot water cascading over me, when I eventually got out, I spent a fair amount of time going through my clothes. Being my first official day at school as a girl, I wanted to look and feel good. I picked a cute, yet comfy set of underwear before deciding on a pair of dark blue low-rise jeans and an off-the-shoulder pink crop-top, with lightly puffed sleeves.
Once I was dressed, I headed back down to the kitchen where Ellie had set up a kind of makeshift salon chair. I hesitated before sitting down. "Should I be insulted?" my aunt joked as she noticed my reticence. "No. It's nothing like that " I said hastily, "I've just never had my hair done professionally before, Mom always just kinda trimmed the ends if needed" I admitted, this just caused Ellie to smile softly. "You'll be ok hon, that's pretty much all I'm going to do today maybe cut in some bangs if you're feeling adventurous?" her gentle smile formed into a playful one and she winked at me.
Although I was still a little hesitant, I relaxed into the chair. Ellie then wrapped a towel over my shoulders and got to work, she chattered away to me the whole time about some of the clients she had to deal with when she popped into the salon and she made me laugh with some of the horror stories that came from such places. After about twenty minutes, she was done.
Thanking her profusely, I jogged up to my room to check my reflection in the mirror in my wardrobe, "Whoa!" I gasped as I saw my reflection. Even though I was not yet wearing makeup, between my attire and my new hairstyle, I looked very feminine. I messed about pulling some faces like pouting etcetera before I caught sight of the time on my alarm clock.
I had to rush slightly to get my make-up on, once I was done, I checked my reflection again, happy with what I saw, I grabbed a light jacket and headed downstairs. Mom was up by this time and the two women had been joined by Jenny who had returned from her morning run, they were in the middle of a conversation about getting the younger woman a key cut as she seemed to be spending a decent amount of time at ours. As I entered the kitchen, my mom gasped, Jenny looked around and smiled at me. "Your hair looks nice" she stated.
I thanked her as I blushed. "I need to get going, I want to get a head start on my next assignment" I informed Mom as I pulled my jacket on. "Ok lion, but if I get a call from the school later telling me you've been skipping classes with a certain boy. We'll be having words young miss" Mom purred, although she said it in a jovial way, I could tell she was being absolutely serious. "I promise Mom; I'll be good" I murmured as my blush deepened. Ellie chuckled as Jenny gave me a knowing look. "Yes, well you'd better" Mom teased as I hugged her and kissed her on the cheek. "Are you going to be here when I get home Aunty El?" I inquired as the woman pulled me into a hug after my mom had let go of me.
"I'll be here for a few days; until things settle down a bit" she insisted as she let go of me. "Cool, I'll see you this evening then" I confirmed as I turned to give Jenny a quick hug too. She then gave me a half wave as I headed for the door. "I'll see you all later" I called out as I stepped out of the front door.
Straight away the first thing I noticed was that even though it was relatively warm for a November morning, I felt colder overall, now that I was no longer wearing the super baggy clothing, I didn't have the layers of insulation. I tightened my grip on my bag and headed out along the road toward school.
I was humming away to my usual playlist and didn't notice the car pulling up alongside me, it wasn't until the horn blared that I jumped and looked around. The driver of the car rolled the window down. "Urn can I help you with something?" I asked whilst pulling one of my earphones out so I could hear the guy clearly. "Hey. Do you want a lift?" he called over his obnoxiously loud music.
I frowned as I stared at the guy, he was classically good looking, with slick blonde hair and deep blue eyes that had probably earned him an invite into many girls' pants, but he also had what my dad would refer to as a 'shit eating' grin. He was good looking and he knew it. I detested him instantly. "I'm good walking, thanks" I stated bluntly as I made to put my earphone back in. The guy seemed a little surprised at my rebuff. "Wait!" he called out, I stopped; having only taken a half step.
"You know, most chicks would love to take a ride with me" he grinned toothily. I smiled coolly as I turned fully to face the car. "And a statement like that; is exactly the reason I would never get in your car" I growled. The guy was looking for something to say when I saw Kiera enter my peripheral vision. She walked right up to the car door and leaned down to look in through the window. "Oh, hey Travis! Fancy seeing you here.
I'll be sure to let Aeryn know that you're being the perfect gentleman and offering lonely girls a lift to school, while your girlfriend is off sick" the redhead snarled. Acid tinged every word. `Travis' turned pale as Kiera continued, "I would suggest that if you are going to play the field; you don't try it on with girls that are friendly with your actual girlfriend". There was a moment where Travis looked as though he was going to respond, instead, he rolled up the window and shot away with a squeal of tires. "What an asshole, I'm still going to tell Aeryn.
I keep telling her; she deserves better than that dick stain" Kee hissed as she watched after the car. She turned around and saw me looking at her with shock and awe. As I stated before; she had a reputation for having a hot temper but I'd never actually seen it. She was really fierce. Especially when it came to protecting her friends, it seemed. "Allie, you look gorgeous!" she gushed suddenly.
"I love what you've done with your hair? Who did you get to cut in your bangs? Who did your make up? Did you do it yourself?". It genuinely took me longer to formulate the answers to her questions than it took her to ask them. I just stood there astonished as the redhead hooked my arm and dragged me towards the park whilst saying, "Girl, we're going to be late if you keep dilly dallying". We got to chatting as we walked, I brought her up to date on everything that had happened the previous day, and she got really pissed when I told her that my dad was going to hit me.
I went on to explain about my afternoon with Jenny and the visit from my aunt. "I reckon Emily would get on well with my aunt. She doesn't take shit from anyone either" I joked as we left the park. We were just entering the gate to the school when I saw Damien pulling in on a meaty-looking motorcycle.
He parked the bike and was fiddling about with his helmet when he happened to look over at me and did a double-take. I smiled shyly and gave him a half wave, causing him to grin nervously before walking off toward the main building. "Jeez Kiera chuckled as she dragged me off toward the side of the establishment. "What?" I demanded petulantly as we continued to walk arm in arm along the Eastern side of the school. "Why don't you just throw your panties at him, it'd be less obvious". I blushed furiously and argued that it wasn't like that as we rounded the corner and the anterior courtyard came into view.
I faltered in my protests; there was a lot going on as nearly forty students in all occupied the space, they ranged from basketball players to footballers and even a few of the popular crowd from the swim team.
"Oh god, I'm not so sure about this" I grumbled nervously as Kiera guided me past a group of guys - that were tussling over a basketball towards the other cheerleaders. "You'll be fine" Kee insisted "Like I said, you look incredible and your girls have got your back" She grinned before cheerfully greeting some girls I didn't know, as we climbed the few steps onto the stone dais where our friends were currently sitting. "Allier Chloe squealed as she caught sight of me.
She jumped to her feet and ran over to me, where she proceeded to throw her arms around me and pull me into a tight bear hug, "Babe you look amazing. I'm so glad you finally embraced your inner girl" she gushed as I blushed again; her exuberant greeting had garnered the attention of a fair few people in the nearby vicinity. "Uh, hey Chloe" I gasped as Emily appeared beside me. She peeled Chloe off me whilst stating, "Come on Chlo let the girl breathe". I smiled my relief as Emily gave me a brief hug before Cass and Kat took their turns.
Kiera and I joined the girls as they returned to their seats around a large table that was also occupied by Kyle and Carter as well as a dark-haired guy, that I hadn't met. I stared at him quizzically as I took my seat, he seemed familiar, but it wasn't until Chloe mentioned him by name that I placed him. "Ooh, you haven't met Aaron yet, have you?" she gasped, seemingly only just realizing this was the first time I had sat with them. "You're Aaron?" I inquired as I looked at the guy. He waved at me ironically as I looked around at Emily and gasped, "You never mentioned that you and Aaron are twins".
I knew of course that Emily had a brother, he had been mentioned during my chats with the girls, but I couldn't recall a time where any of the girls mentioned that the two were in fact, twins. My utter surprise at the revelation drew laughter from the group. "Yeah, it's something that Em 'forgets' to mention because I'm actually a few minutes older than she is, she doesn't like the fact that she's my little sister" Aaron grinned with a wink. Looking between the twins, it was easy to see the family resemblance, they had the same intense green eyes and thick black hair, but where Emily had the female curves on an athletic frame; Aaron was angular and quite muscular.
He wasn't quite as well built as Carter or even Kyle for that matter, but he still looked powerful enough to pick me up with little effort. "So, where's everyone else?" Kiera asked as she looked around the table, it seemed that several of their group were missing. "Dozer and Cabbott have got detention" Carter grinned, Kiera smiled hesitantly as she asked, "What!? How? And why are they serving detention before school?". It was Kyle that explained, "Apparently, they did something to Kickstarter's bike.
Coach somehow managed to convince him to allow them to do their detention this morning, so they didn't miss practice this afternoon". There was a moment in which the group laughed at the misfortune of their comrades. In a more serious tone, Carter continued, "Duke is out today, apparently his dad is getting bad again". The group went quiet for a moment before Aaron finally cleared his throat,
"Travis was here, but he disappeared pretty quickly" he explained, causing Kiera to snarl through clenched teeth, "He's probably hiding from me. I caught him trying to pick Allie up on the way in today". I blushed yet again as several sets of eyes looked at me questioningly. "Don't you all look at me like that" I growled indignantly as I folded my arms, "if that asshole even tries touching me, I'm kicking him in the balls".
My acidic comment caused a few chuckles as Kyle continued, "Jesse and Silky are on their way, same as Tommy and Nate". Kiera nodded her understanding before asking, "What about the girls?" Kyle seemed to hesitate for a moment before saying, "Uh well as you know; Aeryn's off ill. Tammy went off to find Gill; assumedly for a quickie before school and Queen Bitch was a law unto herself" "As always" Aaron interjected with a sly grin. "She got all antsy that you weren't here, so she stormed off.
The lemmings followed her" Kyle chuckled as Aaron added another "as always" after the second comment. Kiera had a distinctively annoyed look on her face at Kyle's statement. I leaned over and whispered to Chloe, "Who's 'Queen Bitch'? And why's Kee so pissed?". Chloe chuckled before explaining, "Oh, Demi Aldridge. Rumour has it that she couldn't buy her way onto the cheer squad and that's why she's always so pissed off.
Most don't actually know the rivalry between Demi and Kiera goes way back to middle school though. "As for the lemmings; Laura and Annette. They're actually pretty ok, but for some weird reason, they're hopelessly devoted to Demi" she explained with a shrug of her shoulders, before turning her attention back to the chattering group. As a naturally shy person, I generally found it difficult to ingratiate myself into a group, I would normally just keep myself to myself and not really talk much, in becoming friends with the athletes though, I found myself constantly drawn into conversations, not just by the girls, but by the guys too.
Somewhere in the next ten to fifteen minutes, we were joined by a shorter, heavily set guy that introduced himself as Jesse and a wiry-colored guy, that towered over me. My curiosity got the better of me as he introduced himself as `Silky'. "Where do you get a nickname like that? There was that other guy too 'Dozer' was it? And what about 'Duke' they can't be their real names right? So, what's the story behind them?" I smiled shyly, to which Silky grinned toothily, "Alas, the origin of my nickname is actually pretty boring. See, my full name is Dennis Silcock.
I've never been fond of either of my names. When we were kids; Aaron just started calling me 'Silky' and it kinda stuck. Even my own family call me that now, ‘cept maybe my mom and my grandma. As for Dozer and Duke, well it's not really my place to tell their stories but they are a bit more interesting" he said with a wink. The group continued to make small talk as other members arrived and I really began to enjoy my time with them.
At one point Aaron made a passing joke about Kyle getting confused and kissing him instead of Emily, this of course triggered a debate about which of the twins was better looking. As everyone voted in their favor, I was practically demanded to make the final judgment. The twins sat before me and I had to work desperately hard not to laugh as Aaron was pouting in the most ridiculous way.
I pretended to deliberate for a minute or so before saying, "Nope, I'm sorry Aaron, but Em wins out every time". The girls cheered as Emily jumped up and did a silly dance. Aaron feigned offense as the guys howled and joked about him supposedly failing at being a `lady-killer'. Soon after that, the bell rang for the start of the day. We all gathered up our bags and with a round of hugs between the girls, we all separated off to our classes. Cass hooked her arm in mine as we wandered through the halls to our first class. I think Kyle wanted to chat about the final release trailer for the game that was now only a few weeks or so from release, but I was too preoccupied with talking to Cass, about make-up, of all things.
As we entered the class, several of the conversations stopped abruptly as people saw me, I blushed furiously as a few comments were made: some subtle, some not so much. I bid a temporary farewell to Cass and Kyle before winding my way through the seats and dropping down into the one that Damien was holding for me. "Your face looks broken" I muttered as he just stared at me oddly. He seemed hesitant, and it was a moment before he managed to say, "Well, you went into the weekend as a boy and came out of it a girl, so". I looked round at him quickly. "You say that like it's a bad thing". Damien swallowed hard before carefully replying, "Hell Barbie, you know that I'm totally cool with it...but you're going to need to be careful. If people find out..." he trailed off as the teacher; Mr Farbes, entered the room and began roll call.
I frowned as I whispered, "I doubt people will find out, how would they?" Damien seemed to struggle for a moment before he growled, "What about your school records; Have you done anything about getting those changed? The teachers more than anyone, are likely to question it. And then of course you have things like using the bathrooms; What if somebody sees something they shouldn't?". I felt a little annoyed as I turned and hissed, "Are you kidding me? You spent the better part of last week telling me I should be myself and now that I'm doing just that, you're saying it was a bad idea?". Damien frowned before saying, "I never once said it was a bad idea.
I just said you need to be careful". He stopped speaking as Mr. Farbes looked over at us pointedly. "Something the two of you wish to share with the class?" he demanded causing me to blush furiously as Damien growled, "No, sir" before looking down at his desk. I heard a couple of muttered comments from our classmates before the teacher continued with the lesson.
Damien and I didn't speak much for the rest of the class and I was still angry with him as the bell rang at the end of it, he made to say something to me, but I gathered up my stuff quickly and disappeared off to where Cass and Kyle were waiting by the door. When we entered the second class of the day, I deliberately took a seat over where the two athletes were sitting. Kyle began to make a joke about having a lover's tiff with Damien, but I looked at him with such a scowl, the joke died on his lips.
