Prototype remote end DMX cable tester.

This is just an experimental piece of software that allows a minimalist cable tester to be made from a hard wired microcontroller (no PCB required), a USB lead and a smattering of basic components.

Well, poop. I accidentally went off and bought ten PIC12F1840s. Dammit Clive, I managed to leave PICs alone for a decade! This is all your fault! :D

Nice project and very elegant code Clive. I know what you mean about the price of five pin XLRs. I've retired from the sound and lighting business now but I might just build one for shits and giggles.

Nice tester and I like the idea of the scan mode! I am now thinking about modifying a ethernet cable testers that uses a similar circuit with LED + reverse diode. Have you thought about combining the scan and step mode? In scan mode, you could increase the on-time of the current stepped LED so that this one should be brighter then the other ones.

Nice little tester. I will build one for my daughter who works in theater / stage production.. Will save those urgent last minute calls for help or at least reduce them, lol. cheers Clive.

It's a useful variant on the PIC series and my supplier was selling them in bulk at a very low price.

"...because I have over a 1000 of them..." O_O good god man! How much manufacturing did you plan on doing? (not just for this project)

Dustin

Great little tester. I will pass this along to my Stage production friends. They may find this quite useful and compact 😺
