Odd, insect deterring lamp.

Here in australia, the yellow lamps were popular for not attracting light sensitive night insects. Here a standard white lamp will attract a thick layer of little flying bastards on every surface around. The yellow lamps definitely dont attract as many, maybe a couple of hundred instead of millions. makes no difference to mozzies though.

In the UK the electrical workers wear the saturn yellow hi vis, but they do at least get issued with Avon skin-so-soft oil which has the weird effect of deterring biting insects.

I spoke to some electricity workers who wear yellow and they have the same problem but no one listens to them.

That's interesting, because many insects are attracted to yellow flowers. I'll have to ask some blue collar friends about that. On the UK railways they use orange hi-vis and on the roads they tend to use yellow.

Interesting about the colour and insects. In my previous job, amongst other things, I was responsible for organising the hiviz clothing. This is the building trade. I got continual complaints about the yellow collecting the small biting flies. We changed over to the orange/red type and the problem was gone.

Theoretically the narrow spectrum with low UV output might help, but with LED lights the main reason not to attract insects is because they are either not as bright as the original lights or go out completely within a year.

WOW that's a horrible power factor... I was under the impression that .4 or .5 was about as bad as it could get.
