Sorry, I've been doing a lot of dubious eBay disco lights recently. It's just been a "thing". This one is the cheapest and plays the trick of looking like a full size one, but being kinda miniaturised. It still works well though.

The microphone picks up ambient noise from anywhere it can get in. In a way it's a crude bass filter.
