Inside a bug zapping lamp.

nullhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mz3RWYn7jQY

By popular request, a teardown of a bug zapper lamp.

This video is also a test of a new app that lets me join sections of video together and also lets me boost the audio.

Let me know if you think the audio is distorted in any way as a result of being boosted, noting that the bass content may cause issues with phones or tablets with small speakers that can't handle the lower frequencies.

I bought one of these after Clive did this. They get stuck in the metalwork inside. It comes with this little brush-pick thing to help get them out, but honestly taking off the globe and giving it a good percussive whack does the best job.

Where do the dead flies go. Looks like they fall out of the side. That's assuming it does kill them.

LOL @ "Lots of electricity".

I drew some lines and then suddenly realised it looked like the earth/ground symbol. Tartan was the only way out.

Big Clive

Ah, Tartan mains, like the usual stuff but more Scottish

Oddly enough. This lamp, or one very much like it, managed to get cUL approval here in Canada and is sold at the Home Depot for$19.99. I imagine those 400v Cap would fare a little bit better run on 120v with different capacitance.

It happens from time to time. I try to be careful not to put out the same style of content all the time. I keep the items for future use though.

I may nudge it one step back if the bass content does cause problems.

Audio sounds great through my headphones, but very mildly distorted through my tiny laptop speakers. Still no problem to understand what you're saying though.

The audio sounds definitely louder, yes. I think it sounds quite good, but I noticed (or maybe it was just my imagination) a slight bump in the volume around minute 10. It started distorting a little bit on the high frequencies for me, very similar to clipping, usually on the sibilants. Depending on how much control that software gives you there may be more than one way of fixing it. If you don't have a lot of filters, then just doing a little bit less boost should do the trick.

I do enjoy the teardown of random Chinese stuff.
