Inside a diamond tester.

For such a cheap device this thing is really quite sophisticated.  It measures thermal conductivity of gemstones with a simple probe.

Do you have any idea why the manufacturer may have removed the chips identifying text?

Indeed interesting the annodisation doesn't conduct heat. Great video

Neither of those. Despite doing a lot of electronic effects and props for movies and TV programs I've only ever been given a credit once (because I literally saved the day.). The credits in a film generally just represent the departments working directly for the production and not external prop workshops.

There are only a few Clive's on IMDB that make much sense: <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0933211/?ref_=fn_nm_nm_198" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0933211/?ref_=fn_nm_nm_198</a> <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0859743/?ref_=fn_nm_nm_169" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0859743/?ref_=fn_nm_nm_169</a>

Argh! I love the "old" movies (to me prior to the 80's), and watch Turner Classic Movies, regularly. Learned (understand) several different languages, because they didn't use to subtitle the foreign languages. If you could provide a year range, and some of the plot, on YouTube, I'm sure that we'd figure it out! Thanks!

It's from a long time ago. I can't remember the name of the movie.

What's the movie? You're killing us! :-)

The cost has prevented them from being used as a substrate for high power electronics. But they do use silicon carbide as a thermally conductive insulator.

Big Clive

I should try it on the phone screen too.

If you have a watch with a sapphire glass or a phone with a sapphire camera lens cover, this tester should also show nearly the same reaction as diamond.

Fascinating. I'd buy one of these just for the LED display and sit dreaming of Knight Rider.

Matt Tester

I never knew that diamonds were so thermally conductive. Interesting and intriguing device.
