A non-electronic diversion.

I like to throw something random into the mix from time to time, so here's a fun "vintage" device that is still readily available from places like eBay.

You can add fragrance to them. It tends to require an amount related to the volume of the oil.

The keyword aromaglow should work on eBay.

These look fab! I love the light and fragrance from scented tealights but they don't last very long (low heat stirling engines work great with them). I'm guessing you can add a few drops of fragrance oil to the canola and get an excellent ambiance. Looking forward to your Fitzroy results.

With multiple glasses (e..g. 10 of these), it would probably make a good low cost alternative to using a paraffin heater, such as in a green house or during a power cut. Cooking oil is a lot cheaper than Class C1 paraffin oil.

Can you give an indication of things to search ebay for to find them? I could save a fortune on candles when im off grid and the glassware I have collected as a result of the wifes nutella addiction could come in really handy.

Interesting. So what kind of electrostatically controlled water dye could be used to turn it into RGB lamp?

The cork-floating-wick things are labelled in Hebrew, yep. Oil lamps are used for a number of purposes in Judaism.

Wow, not seen these things in years! Thanks for the reminder and memories.

I'm so going to try to hack together one of the cork ones this weekend. A bit of cork, some tin foil and a paper towel wick.

I do remember finding something along these lines in our family's dish cabinet and finding these to be a fantastically interesting. I don't recall if it was exactly like this one, but it worked the same and likely was the original manufacturer. 😜 you jogged my memory. Love these tangential video 😺

An oil soluble fragrance might be nice, or an insect repellant, especially for those of us in the temperate zone.

Nifty gadget! Nice and simple!

Robert Gibbons

Yeah, this was different but quite fun!

These are some of my favorite videos on your channel, fwiw. I'd never seen these things before, and it's really interesting to come across something completely different from my experience.

This is great. I'd love to see more "diversions" from time to time :)
