Prize suggestions?
Added 2017-05-09 01:59:10 +0000 UTCIt's far too long since I did a competition for Patreon and PayPal supporters. Mainly because I don't know what you guys would like as prizes. Last time it was random builds and kits, but it would be good to know what you would like. Last time was easier because Patreon makes direct communication easier for things like this. It's going to be trickier this time because there isn't the same communication system for the PayPal supporters and I want to include them. So if you guys suggest possible prizes I'll also randomly pick PayPal winners too.
Last time I listed the prizes and invited you all to pick which one you wanted to try and win, then winners were picked at random.
Comments
Kit's do seem what quite a bit of us would like, Pre built, minimum assembly, or full assembly! Possibly some Items that were taken to bits in previous videos that are just taking up space! Space that could be used for new items needing to be taken to bits!
2017-05-28 15:03:54 +0000 UTCYeah. Something "Big Clive". Maybe one of your kits. Or one of your contraptions (optional danger can be good fun)
2017-05-13 09:31:15 +0000 UTCSomething built and marked "Big Clive" would be cool, but I really like the idea of allowing the winner to pick a reasonable item to be torn down, with a shoutout. Justin Richards proposed it earlier.
2017-05-13 01:38:24 +0000 UTCI second this suggestion. Anything you designed, in kit or complete form.
Andrew Sloniger
2017-05-12 19:25:07 +0000 UTCAnything made by Bigclive would be great
2017-05-12 10:13:10 +0000 UTCAs some have said, kits are always good. Random LED light arrangements always add some fun.
2017-05-11 19:43:43 +0000 UTCA Big Clive coaster and mouse pad matching set with pcb design included showing adequate high/low voltage separation highlighted
2017-05-11 14:06:28 +0000 UTCA resistor artwork or one of your exclusive kits
Richard Boyce
2017-05-10 06:47:06 +0000 UTCWinner gets to choose a video topic for tear down etc, perhaps the glory of their name in the title. (Within reason) Gee whiz BigClive, just went scrolling thru you past videos ... You have been very busy. They are very much appreciated and enjoyed.
2017-05-10 03:39:47 +0000 UTCI think that one of your famous framed resistor art pieces would be a great prize!
2017-05-10 02:18:32 +0000 UTCThat's weird, but viable. But only if it's not used to clone hundreds of copies of me.
Big Clive
2017-05-09 23:32:26 +0000 UTCI do indeed, and they formed part of the prizes last time. Notably the one that went out with the Disney Spectromagic software on it.
Big Clive
2017-05-09 23:28:57 +0000 UTCI'd like to have a beer with you.
Michael Kulczycki
2017-05-09 22:37:50 +0000 UTCAn LED-conversion of a static 40 tungsten fairly light set using lots of colour combinations or the colour changing LEDs you recently reviewed. It would certainly stand out during the Christmas season, compared to the countless 4-colour static and flashing sets. It would also make life easier decorating the tree with a single wire between each bulb.
Seรกn Byrne
2017-05-09 22:20:18 +0000 UTCI'd like any of your self built/modified cute little led lights :D they aren't really worth competing for, but would appreciate them as surprise gifts anyways :)
2017-05-09 20:38:40 +0000 UTCA small board kit would appeal most maybe with "BigClive" etched on it. Apart from that some form of tool. Would suggest nothing extravagant so that maybe you could afford more that one winner per occasion.
2017-05-09 20:36:37 +0000 UTCA signed copy of "Big Clive's Big Book of Weegie Cocktails"?
2017-05-09 18:13:02 +0000 UTCStill got any of your kits knocking around? or just the PCBs
2017-05-09 18:04:27 +0000 UTCI dont support people for prizes... the videos are what its all about! but I wouldnt say no to a PCB style (FR4 with logo) Beer/coffe coaster from big clive .. I'd use that .. I need one for my new desk ;)
2017-05-09 17:49:58 +0000 UTCyup, probably something branded. its gonna be expensive, but it makes a bigclive etched screwdiver, or ... fanny flambe or a screenprinted poundland powerbank........... maybe just get an acid etch kit and start etching your logo on a big pack of cr2032s......
2017-05-09 17:40:20 +0000 UTCYeah I think I changed my mind! One of your "High-End" screwdrivers would be the ultimate price! It doesn't have to be engraved - then more backers can get hold of one! ๐ I can't get one because Poundland won't ship anything outside ๐ฌ๐ง https://www.patreon.com/posts/8455835 But I have to say, this one is the holy grail!
2017-05-09 16:50:33 +0000 UTCI Think that a box of crap from Ebay or the like is something that everyone wants!
Shaun Runham
2017-05-09 16:44:40 +0000 UTCAnything you have touched with a certificate of authenticity and provenance. Otherwise a joule thief as previously suggested by Chris Matts. I'm buggered if I can make one myself.
Demolished Man
2017-05-09 16:42:01 +0000 UTCThe ultimate prize: the purest essence of big Clive himself, a piece of his beard.
Dong Strongly
2017-05-09 16:21:16 +0000 UTCPlus 1 for random box of things. Hell, is take it even if the only thing inside was a flammable rocket butt doll. ;)
2017-05-09 15:21:31 +0000 UTCI suggest some unpopulated custom PCB kits e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTQRRER1MOY I know I would build some of these, but I simply cant make the PCB because I cant justify buying all the kit, just to make a very small number of PCBs
2017-05-09 15:00:59 +0000 UTCHow about Poundland screwdriver!
PHT
2017-05-09 14:30:09 +0000 UTCI like what you did last time, with just random stuff you have messed with. As a long time subscriber, it means more to me to have that something which was handled and close than something which well let's say was off the shelf.
2017-05-09 13:49:58 +0000 UTCProbably bit too pricey, but the device you use to safely connect the device to the mains. It's name escapes me right now. If not that an autographed LED flower arrangement would get you points from my wife.
2017-05-09 13:10:55 +0000 UTCA ten-minute (more? less?) call from the Big Clive to get advice or assistance with your latest electronical project!
Drew B.
2017-05-09 13:07:00 +0000 UTCHave you thought of knitting Big Clive beard wigs? They'd make great prizes!
Jimmeecee
2017-05-09 13:05:31 +0000 UTCHot air soldering station!
2017-05-09 12:38:07 +0000 UTCJoule thief, with a Big Ciive COE :D
2017-05-09 11:05:41 +0000 UTCDefinitely nothing that costs money which could otherwise be diverted to coffee, cookies or eBay!
2017-05-09 10:38:27 +0000 UTCLots of good ideas, I like the idea of a signed schematic or little kit build best.
2017-05-09 10:37:02 +0000 UTCThe only idea I got might be better as a "runner up" prize. The video where you made the " resistor art" I though it would have been cool to make a few sign them and give those away
2017-05-09 10:25:59 +0000 UTCHow about sheer-luck random goodness-in-a-box. Just package up a mysterious box of things, don't tell anyone what's in it, then they can do a big-clive-mystery-unboxing video :-)
2017-05-09 09:19:05 +0000 UTCMake us work for the prize. We make a suggestion of what project we would like to see you do. You pick the wining suggestion or you could also put it to a vote to make it more interesting and you do it or build it. Then the winner gets it. We are all winners then. I think.
2017-05-09 09:17:00 +0000 UTCI was going to say "Just keep producing videos, there's no need for prizes', but this is a much better idea - Challenge 'winning' Patreon-ers and PayPal-ers to send you interesting tat for disassembly and/or modification on video. If modified, return it as the prize!
2017-05-09 08:58:51 +0000 UTCAn audio file that could be used as an outgoing message.
2017-05-09 08:27:49 +0000 UTCA bottle of your favourite whisky if the winner is over 18 with a basic electronic kit
Courtney Blush
2017-05-09 08:02:31 +0000 UTCfirst place. A cheap kit with cheap soldering iron some solder and cheap pliers and cutters.
Orkekum
2017-05-09 06:59:28 +0000 UTCI actually bought one on eBay after that video for my wife. Had to import it from UK because they DON'T sell them in the USA apparently, of course and shipping was MORE than the kit! I just looked on eBay but meh if I can't get it there... ANYWAY My wife LOVES them! I had let one go for as long as it would and it was running 30 hours later when the oil almost ran out, the wick was short and it was barely burning but it was still going! So sending those out as possible prizes are a good idea IMHO because they may not be easy to get in other countries.
Michael Wellman
2017-05-09 06:58:38 +0000 UTCVery cool idea!
2017-05-09 06:57:31 +0000 UTCI like the idea of a signed schematic from one of your videos. That would be cool.
2017-05-09 06:26:20 +0000 UTCA Big Clive T Shirt with the slogan "I'm Guessing" ๐
2017-05-09 06:22:15 +0000 UTCIdeally something pink that explodes but I doubt that's practical. A signed schematic from your notebook would be great.
2017-05-09 06:17:21 +0000 UTCHow about opening one of our broken devices on a video if we win?
Reid Fishler
2017-05-09 05:49:29 +0000 UTCI love to watch your channel! keep going! :)
2017-05-09 05:46:33 +0000 UTCHere in Sweden I have to go to Amazon.co.uk or ebay.com to buy "real" solder. The ones I have get hold of is behaving just like "the environmental-friendly-crap" they are selling here. So my suggestions: 1. One or two rolls of your favorite Solder! 2. Something from your "junk-box" It would be awesome if you could sign the item or write something of your signature phrases! :-) 3. If you live outside the U.K. It is almost impossible to buy something from Poundland. So something useful/funny from there with your signature or a funny joke from on it. 4. I love when you reverse-engineer things and I would love to have one of your hand drawn schematics (also signed) especially one for the IKEA USB-Chargers. I have replaced all my chargers with the IKEA-chargers, at last my home is silent - no high-frequent noises that's usually comes with USB-wall-plugs. I also can rest assured that I won't wake up as I did before with the room filled with smoke and a black and whit charger (it was just whit when I bought it). Thank you for all great inspiration/help and tips!
2017-05-09 05:38:01 +0000 UTCAutographed memorabilia, or maybe any poundland project you've modified but no longer have a use for?
Rich Mazzeo
2017-05-09 05:29:02 +0000 UTCNothing says "bigclive" like a random assortment of LEDs and plastic mushrooms! ;)
2017-05-09 04:53:11 +0000 UTCThis!
2017-05-09 04:33:50 +0000 UTCAfter all the great teardowns and comments on mains voltage LED power supplies, I'd like to see your own design in a video and the winner would get the supply and light. Make it 25W or so it is really useful. You've shown a number of "interesting" work light housings with rather inadequate LEDs and/or innards so it would be great to see your own ideal design.
Ross Clark
2017-05-09 04:07:13 +0000 UTC+1 on the video of winners choice. I think we live in a world where material things are so cheap to buy... the things that is truly valuable above all else, is knowledge and experience.
2017-05-09 04:04:55 +0000 UTCTake it to bits on a shirt would be great
spacey
2017-05-09 04:03:21 +0000 UTCHow about lunch with Big Clive(travel expenses not included?)
Lostngone
2017-05-09 03:53:38 +0000 UTCA t-shirt that says "Take it to bits" or "Fresh, Juicy Solder"
2017-05-09 03:43:51 +0000 UTCYes! Clean out your junk boxes! :)
2017-05-09 03:06:59 +0000 UTCI love the random kits idea. Maybe you could include one you made and one that's not build and show it once the person made it.
2017-05-09 02:59:35 +0000 UTCI hope you win the most
2017-05-09 02:55:39 +0000 UTCI'm in Vietnam so any thing cost arm and leg to send and then added 35% tax on arrival, so just blow something up, or melt it ....
2017-05-09 02:55:13 +0000 UTCI like the user-suggested video topic, personally.
2017-05-09 02:54:46 +0000 UTCA video of the winners choice, either some device they would like to see dissected, or something they'd like to see created.
Joelle Seguin
2017-05-09 02:39:33 +0000 UTCParts you've bought and decided not to use or have way too much of. A bag of your finest electric guano.
CasualKitty
2017-05-09 02:37:50 +0000 UTCPluck that idea from his mind.
2017-05-09 02:35:58 +0000 UTCThomas had a great idea here is the link to his original post in the community room https://www.patreon.com/posts/8455835
2017-05-09 02:34:43 +0000 UTCYou have a lot of experience with systems like DMX, would that carry over to things like DALI? If so, maybe a small consult prize? Help someone with a bunch of LED lights in a home looking to get away from the little chinese power suplies on each light and add control? :)
Raymond Richmond
2017-05-09 02:31:02 +0000 UTCEvery seems to be having the same ideas
Vaughn B.
2017-05-09 02:28:11 +0000 UTCSmall kits that you build or tools that you use (not your own tools๐). Giving the dodgy electric might not be advisable for liability reasons. Floating oil candle kit perhaps. USB soldering iron is not a bad idea. Too bad you can't ship your booze concoctions ๐บ
Vaughn B.
2017-05-09 02:27:54 +0000 UTCA self made kit would be the best prize. Perhaps do a special video of you assembling the prize!
2017-05-09 02:27:45 +0000 UTCClive made and branded champagne:) Or one of your other concoctions.
Rav
2017-05-09 02:26:39 +0000 UTCThose USB soldering irons would be great prizes (though I already have a few). Any kind of tools are always great!
2017-05-09 02:24:59 +0000 UTCI would like to see a soldering iron/station with a few kits and (possibly) some flux-core LBS wire as a "Grand Prize" type thing or parts of that as smaller prizes. You've got me interested in soldering and I'm a bit low on cash so a shot at a prize like that would be nice. :P That Yahua/yehua station was not a lot but more than I thought.
2017-05-09 02:22:34 +0000 UTCKits that you have designed would be nice! I'm thinking of the cyberpussy or similar, useless stuff that you have made pcb's for over the years. Keep up the good work!
2017-05-09 02:22:18 +0000 UTCmy wife would like the magic wand :D
2017-05-09 02:20:22 +0000 UTCI liked the random builds/kits idea from last time. It's neat to win something that we got to see you make.
