Uh-oh. I've had a slight incident.

I decided to take apart some different styles of NiMh rechargeable cell to see how they compared internally, and it was going so well until the end when the contents of one of the fully discharged cells just basically self ignited.
It was a long night clearing my workbench of flammable items and trying to find the other bits of self-igniting material that had been pinged into random locations by the springy electrode materials. But my bench is a bit tidier now and I found lots of cool things that were supposed to have been videoed but got buried.
In summary... Here's what they look like inside, so you don't have to open them yourselves and set your place on fire.
If you ever make a "best moments of" reel, the ignition scene must be in it!

Put this months Patreon Coffee money to buy a fire extinguisher. LOL

The recycling centre must be an exciting place if some batteries have self igniting compounds! But way better on Clive's desk. True exploration with potential drama!

Gahh! whats really annoying is that I had a bunch of these yesterday that I chucked in the recycling bin that could have been better utilised starting fires :)

Clive, you are a master of suspense. I was the edge waiting.

As soon as I saw he was doing this on paper towels I was saying "This is not going to end well". And I was not disappointed!

Excellent! Your work surface is much more in keeping with the theme of the channel now. Skid marks should cover at least 30% of the bench for optimal evidence of scientific exploration.

Now I see it, too. Well, at least no Jesus appearance this time

That was an unveiling of he magic smoke generator, the one that keeps all the electronics running...

Does anyone else see a lions face in the burn marks on the bench? Or do I need more sleep!

Hours. Mainly because of all the technical distractions on it. And it was more of an initial thinning. I did a second pass through the stuff today.

So how long did it take you to clean the bench? Inquiring minds want to know.

FF a Clive Video? SACRILEGE! HERETIC!!!

That probably explains why these should not be disposed of in the trash, besides environmental reasons.

I've had occasion to run out of the house with a burning lipo dangling by its discharge wires from my hand. But never thought an NiMH would do what yours did.

My bench needs a tidy, but i think I'll avoid the fire route!!

Haha brilliant, and not an expletive!😂

God damn I love your videos, Clive. Electronics, alcohol, occasional explosions, thick Scottish brogue - what's not to love!

This is why we leave it to the experts :)
And yes, I find 2am is the usual time of day to suddenly have to deal with this sort of thing....
I do think we deserve a pic of the now-tidy desk, though!
