Initially I thought this might just have been a COB style LED array with no current limiting, but it's actually really clever inside. And fan cooled too, which still didn't save the LEDs.

2018-04-13 10:58:51 +0000 UTCI don't think cars have been positive ground in a long while. At least here in the USA anyway
2018-04-13 04:05:46 +0000 UTCI guess the lamp needs to be insensitive to polarity because there are cars around with with negative ground and ones with positive. (I understand positive ground is more common these days for corrosion protection). And since an incandescant lamp doesn't care about polarity, I wouldn't be surprised if the polarity on the lamp connector isn't standardized at all.
