Audio issues?
Added 2018-05-25 21:41:08 +0000 UTCIs anyone experiencing audio issues on my videos? I've had a lot of comments saying that they are only getting audio out one speaker or none at all.
I think this may be due to YouTube encoding with surround sound and something is misinterpreting my bassy voice as a bass channel.

No problems at all 👍
2018-06-12 20:46:10 +0000 UTCLoud and clear.
2018-05-28 20:11:24 +0000 UTCYouTube doesn't support 5.1 sound. You can verify your audio tracks by dropping them into something like Audacity. Anyone having issues should probably check if they have "virtual surround" turned on. There's new features in Windows 10 that may mean more people have fake surround sound turned on, too.

2018-05-26 22:20:01 +0000 UTCI have surround sound, and your voice only comes through the center channel, which makes it even more bassy than it already is. But it has been that way for months
2018-05-26 20:55:16 +0000 UTCAll good using both laptop speakers and NC headphones with Firefox v60 and Chrome v66 on Linux. Perhaps some people are using odd/old software that switches to a less bass-friendly codec?

2018-05-26 06:43:53 +0000 UTCNo issues to be had here, other than perhaps audio being a tad quieter than other videos (but it's not hard to bump the volume up a little to compensate, as long as I remember to turn it back down afterward).

2018-05-26 06:33:29 +0000 UTCSound great on my TV with chromecast and an old 2.0 analogue old school stereo connected to the telly.
2018-05-26 06:31:05 +0000 UTCThere was a problem with some Nvidia graphics cards outputting the audio via HDMI, their last driver update last week caused videos to tare and some audio problems mainly on Chrome, they issued a new driver yesterday, so try updating.
2018-05-26 06:16:56 +0000 UTCNever had any issue at all. I don't know how youtube works when uploading, but maybe stereo is not needed for voiceovers and electrical bangs? Go mono ! :)

2018-05-26 06:07:15 +0000 UTCYes I get you through the bass channel on occasion if YouTube is on my TV with the surround sound on. It's easily sorted by changing the surround mode from 5.1 to stereo

2018-05-26 05:05:37 +0000 UTCBeen all fine here on the sound front and I can easily tell when a sound channel drops out. I have even had my own car stereo speakers scare me when I had one failing and then all of a sudden kick back in while I am driving. I have been using a combo of surround sound headphones (logitech), bluetooth headphones (cheapie walmart brand) and sound coming from the sound in my tv (LG). Currently I have bigger fish to fry as my computer is currently been BSOD during youtube playback but during a very long gaming sessions my computer is fine and doesn't BSOD. Also I have been experiencing playback issues on my android devices with 1080p 60 FPS videos and yet I play back the video at 1080p 50 fps and I don't experience an issue. Something with YouTube and wreaking havoc with my devices.
2018-05-26 04:31:31 +0000 UTCYou sound fine to me, but one or two videos have been left-channel only.
Aaron the Tinkerer
2018-05-26 04:04:46 +0000 UTCYou come through my center channel but I think that's normal
2018-05-26 03:03:09 +0000 UTCI just tried listening to the 670V lamp video again on a Mac with headphones. I switched through every resolution in Safari (which I'm guessing is using the MP4 encoded variants) and then again in Chrome (I assume it's preferring WEBM) and they all sound great to me.

2018-05-26 00:41:19 +0000 UTCPC here and it has been lower in volume than most but I don't think I've noticed any left/right channel issues. I'll play a few of the recent ones and do some analysis. Youtube is likely doing it in the encode.

2018-05-25 23:31:24 +0000 UTCI watch it on Chrome and have not noticed any problems with the audio.
2018-05-25 23:29:48 +0000 UTCIt's a known firefox bug. If, and only if you have surround sound, and if the video is uploaded as mono, the sound incorrectly comes out of the left speaker. It's probably not worth splitting the audio and putting 5% down treble left and 5 % down bass right to differentiate them before uploading..
James Boatright
2018-05-25 23:29:07 +0000 UTCTried "Biggest LED COB yet" and "670-Volt LED lamp!" with headphones on Win10PC Chrome - fine. Stereo.#
2018-05-25 23:20:20 +0000 UTCNo problem here in the latest Firefox (Quantum) through an external sound card. Edit: Though it's been a bit 'tinny' recently, which I put down to maybe a different recording device.

2018-05-25 23:10:13 +0000 UTCI work with video professionally. I downloaded your last two videos and analyzed them, they are both in mono - but real mono, and not stereo with one silent channel. All computers (if correctly configured) should play the audio out of both speakers. Manx Meetup: Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: opus, 48000 Hz, mono, fltp (default) Poundland solar: Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: opus, 48000 Hz, mono, fltp (default)

2018-05-25 22:48:20 +0000 UTCAll fine for me, just downloaded your last video and checked it, it has a normal stereo channel. Seems to be a bug in some clients?

2018-05-25 22:30:02 +0000 UTCKinda a sly humble brag there right? :D "Oh it's probably just how my giant manly beard absorbs higher frequency sounds....... And I'm too powerful for your speakers to BOTH work at once...... The same thing happens whenever I set up stages for rock bands - bass players tend to disappear, and we always find them white as sheep hiding behind some boxes refusing to ever play again........"

2018-05-25 22:14:32 +0000 UTCI think it is a Firefox bug when using surround sound with a mono or stereo centered audio. It is supposed to deposit the audio on the center channel but puts it on the left channel (first channel in 5.1 setup). Your audio tracks are encoded as stereo in the following formats (using most recent clip as example): 249 webm audio only DASH audio 53k , opus @ 50k, 6.28MiB 250 webm audio only DASH audio 73k , opus @ 70k, 8.31MiB 171 webm audio only DASH audio 97k , vorbis@128k, 11.15MiB 140 m4a audio only DASH audio 99k , m4a_dash container, mp4a.40.2@128k, 12.14MiB 251 webm audio only DASH audio 110k , opus @160k, 12.64MiB Sounds fine to me in Chrome, Edge, IE (eek) with heaphones or speakers, on Chromecast also. Nothing to worry about, carry on.

2018-05-25 22:11:12 +0000 UTCNothing wrong on a Moto Z-Force Droid, and Chromecast Ultra for my TV.
2018-05-25 22:10:40 +0000 UTCAll OK on regular stereo work PC. Different on HDMI audio at home... Most of your videos start with your BBC/PBX voice, then as you start speaking more naturally I hear either my graphics card or monitor start to step the volume down a little. Only on 2 channel sound in either case, but always both channels active.
Andy Brown
2018-05-25 22:06:07 +0000 UTCHi! Yep, I *did* have problems with your videos in the combination Safari on the Mac + my Audio interface + one of your videos - somehow that exact combination didn't work out. If you switched either of the items named to something else it had worked (either other soundcard or other browser or other video played). Now that I have another interface it all works fine. The error is very strange and I could never find out the real technical reason behind it.

2018-05-25 21:53:12 +0000 UTCWell yeah on 5.1 only left channel works, but on tablet/cellphone it works fine. - But this is since a long time. Not really new to my opinion. - Also I can see this behavior only in Firefox 28 (which I primary use for youtube, because HTML5 sectional buffering does not work too well for me.) In Chrome I do have only center channel. Edit: Firefox 60Beta behaves like FF 28

2018-05-25 21:52:00 +0000 UTCI did have the problem of no audio at all. Following Clive's advice, I changed my sound card settings from '5.1 Surround' to 'Stereo'. This resolved the issue for me.

2018-05-25 21:45:01 +0000 UTCIt's fine for me as well; going through a Chromecast to a receiver and stereo speakers + subwoofer. You aren't coming through the sub - but I have a compressor inline as well that limits the quiet bass (i.e. ambient hums and such)

2018-05-25 21:44:52 +0000 UTCI've not had any issues, I watch on a TV hooked up to a soundbar with a separate subwoofer and you come out of both, not sure if it's left and right channels though as the speakers are too close on the soundbar
