Wound sucking machine.

It's machine.  That sucks your wounds.

I guess the purpose of this device is to keep a slight external pressure on a wound to create a slight outward flow of "stuff" and therefore prevent the ingress of bacteria that might cause an infection.

It seems quite wasteful that it's disposable, but I suppose it's all about prevention of cross infection, particularly if the unit draws through sticky secretions.

I'm going to have to remember to put the YouTube link down here from now on, because otherwise it's displaying it to anyone who visits the Patreon page as a not very secret teaser.  (That basically points to the unlisted video!)

You may notice I'm mentioning subscribing to the channel in the videos I'm putting out over the next month.  It's an experiment to see how it does actually affect the subscription rate.  I'll let you know the results after I've been doing it for a while.

I had to wear a wound-vac for 6 weeks about a year ago. The machine itself was reusable but the tank/filter assembly was disposable.

Should be called the Suck-O-Matic or Drac-O-Tron.

That does seem prohibitively wasteful - worse than those big aluminium spotlights even.. I wonder if they've broken out JTAG connections for the MCU - it might be possible to interrogate some of the innards with a programmer, or at least snoop the IO in real time..

It's the switch, sitting right under the big orange button. Clive mentions it at around 3:35.

What is that big silver round-ish thing that looks like it has a bit of cellotape over it? Could that possibly be a backup battery for the RTC to monitor its expiration date? Would removing and reinserting it cause the unit to reset, or do you reckon the MCU would have tripped a fuse that it would then detect on power being reapplied?

That programmed chip is tempting though because of all the pads they have left to conveniently wire to! I know that's only a small part of the overall picture, but the pads, man! LOL I'm glad someone else already got the naughty application idea mentioned and out of the way. -very efficient group, we are. (also LOL)

Setting their bed on fire would be quite embarrassing.

Sorry - "LittelFuse". All these years I've thought it was "LittleFuse" which I thought was kind of cute, but now Google destroys my memories by coldly stating, "Showing results for 'LittelFuse'". *sigh*

Daddy Bearcat

Could LF be for "LittleFuse" as the manufacturer? I suppose if the device is potentially going to be used on people who are unconscious or otherwise incapacitated, you don't want to go setting them on fire, thus all the fuses?

Daddy Bearcat

The negative pressure on the wound would actually delay healing. It would delay the formation of a clot, which provides a barrier to infection.

Shame the EEPROM cannot be erased by external voltage probing on those test pads. Be interesting to see it running its program!

I can't speak to that particular unit. But the wound vacs I see in the hospital, even the portable home models are much bigger and reusable. They have container to collect fluid, "puss" , drainage, ect. That is one of the main purposes is to remove stuff, and the container can fill quite quickly and hold upwards of 500ml at a time. This model doesn't do that it does create a negative pressure but not intended to remove fluid, a thought is that it is to help pull blood to the area to help with healing.

I had to read this twice after my wife told me you were reviewing a womb sucking machine...

Mark Dennehy

It could probably be used for that. The pump and pressure switch could be used to determine woodiness.

Big Clive

For some reason when I got the Patreon push notification I read it as “Wood sucking Machine”.. I have no idea where my mind was.. 😂

i dont mind you ccasionally talk about subing and liking and whatnot, do also occasionally mention patreon. I've seen channels that has BEfore their content and aftre the content ads to subbing and patreon and liking and bell icon
