Tiny piezoelectric air pump.

I have to admit that I thought this might be a clone based on an original piezoelectric design, but using a standard magnetic mover.  But it's not.  And the simplicity of the operation is incredible.

I say pee'-zoh, Emma agrees with me. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xvmw1nIFIU" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xvmw1nIFIU</a>

Judging by the Greek spelling πιέζειν and Wikipedia's "IPA for Greek" help page, it looks like it would be pronounced (in Modern Greek) "pee-eh-zoh" with a Z as in zoo.

So it basically farts at 50/60 Hz

The locations of the 1M resister suggests that perhaps they had intended to put a capacitor in place of the first 8.2k resistor

Your "reservoir" in the States would be called an "accumulator" if it were on the output side. That's a cute pump!!

That's interesting. Weird resistor.....! Another item that may be worth tearing down (and owning) is an affordable Quicko brand soldering station. I bought one for about NZ$62 - it's in an extruded project type box... And, to me, not too shabby. It has an OLED display, and heats very fast. The iron is nice - seems to have a silicone wire. The board looks good (I think?) - the only slightly concerning bits are the plastic sheet used to isolate the bottom of the board from the case, no really solid earth connection for the case (kind of 'passive' via the edges of PCB etc) and the display/outlet plug board is a little loose. But it's better earthed than a bunch of off the shelf stuff is...... And it hasn't exploded on me yet. Even has an accessible/replaceable fuse on the plug socket for the mains.

On the Piezo pronounciation thing - there's no definitive answer so say whatever you like! it comes from the Ancient Greek word (Piezein) - meaning 'pressure' How that word was pronounced in Ancient Greek - who knows INCLUDING the people who chose to use it!! Pee-zo, Pie-zo are both used widely - Pee-Ay-Zo us also used (based on Modern Greek pronounciation?) Including a 'T' is probably wrong tho - e.g. Pee-Ets-Oh That's a more Romance Language (e.g. modern Italian etc.) than Greek??
