A motorised fly trap!

This is an interesting but very simple design for a fly trap that uses an intriguing rotating comb device to enclose and then usher flies into a central collection area.

The current draw is very low, so this device could run on a USB power bank.  I'm guessing it may be quite easy to gum up, particularly if a fly doesn't get the message.

I get way too much enjoyment out of my fly-zapping tennis racket to get a machine to do it for me.. Must admit, when I first saw the picture, I was excitedly imagining some sort of iron maiden for flies.. oh well...

Well... I mean... if they don't get the hint...

When i first saw that, i thought it would shred the flies between those fins...

Tsia

Twisted and practical. I'll drink to that

i have a mosquito trap thats draws them in with a sent bait as well as uv light, it has a fan and it sucks them into a fine wire basket where the fan drys them out and they die

I wonder if you could use this for catching wasps. Maybe fill the lower contained with some chemical and turn the flies in to a type of fuel, like the self-powered robots from about 14 years ago that digested flies.

I bet this was another early morning video from BG! Thank goodness he has not got anything better to do, LOLZ. I could watch a video of BG explaining how pain dried. That soft Scottish accent, his fluid delivery and stories make every vid 11/10.

Yah cleaning this would be a bit icksome.

It's an interesting idea, but I suspect that cleaning this Rube Goldberg flytrap would be a bloody nightmare. Pretty sure there was never really much wrong with old "funnel style" flytraps that work like a crab pot (by design the insects find it easy to get into but difficult to find their way back out again). It seems like a perfect example of the "take a simple idea and ADD ELECTRONICALS FOR MOAR PROFIT!!" philosophy, like many single-use kitchen gadgets. If you bought this for somebody as a gift, I suspect it would end up at the back of the cupboard or in the garbage after not very long at all.

My pink death mushroom (which uses a tiny switching PSU instead) has been working well to keep the flies and mosquitoes to a minimum in my room for the past could years. I ended up replacing the LEDs soon after getting it because the UV ones it came with faded quickly, also replaced the fan with a super quiet one I had from salvage. It's faded down again, may be time to replace the LEDs once more and check how hard it's driving them. This new type is ingesting, but the death mushrooms win for style.
