High voltage Jacob's ladder with Gabriel electrode.

I decided to dig out my Jacob's ladder and get it working again.  It seemed logical to make a video about it.

ahh the belts i had of those tranny's while leaning over the roof to repair the neon strip round the top of the building...

I had a peak of six plus various other machines, but I can only really fit in three here. (The one out of sight is Eight Ball Deluxe..)

Big Clive

I see other Italians besides FIAT and ALFA liked their acronyms.

Harri Haataja

Clive! Are those your pins? Two very nice machines you got there! I've got a few (*cough* 14 *cough*) myself.

Roy Eltham

You mean the two top black wires? Yeah, those look close. But it might just be the camera angle making it look that way.

I was wondering if someone could tell me why the live and ground of the mains are so close together in the transformer? They are really well separated in the region of those blade switches but terminate just a couple of mm´s fro each other in one of the high voltage output channels. Looks like they are nearly touching.

Most excellent! Sitting behind me is a 15 kV 30 mA neon transformer waiting to be built into a Jacob's Ladder. The Gabriel electrode design you presented will be used in my unit. :)

Excellent, I always wondered how these worked. I'm always reminded of Frankenstein's monster when I see them.

Matt Tester

I myself would love one of these. I see enough interesting scrap come my way that I'll have to check our inventory and keep an eye out for parts in hopes of building my own.

Michael Thompson

I need to make one of these! I'm fairly sure we have some FART transformers kicking around after some activities!

Jon Weston

I was clapping my hands and giggling just from the title. Can't wait to watch.

I need to build one now. Just because...
