Take two of the UV video.

As I use a UV-C tube in my pond filter (and have been the victim of cheap Ebay ones that last 5 minutes) I found this interesting, if only for the fact that I've never found myself shouting "Melanoma!" at a video before. Also reminded of Billy Connolly's statement that all Scots people are actually pale blue and take 3 days in the sun to turn white.

I left autoexposure unlocked to allow for switching the main light on and off, and so it didn't fluctuate too much with my hand movement I locked the sensing point at the top right of the image. I'm switching back to fixed colour balance now.

I use Specsavers in the UK and they do their best to talk me out of getting glass lenses and go for the plastic ones. I specify glass for the inherent UV blocking and scratch resistance.

Fun fact: Whenever somebody who understands the relative sizes of the Earth and the Sun is asked to draw a picture of them, they'll still mess up the size relationship because they're so used to seeing the Sun from their tiny earthbound human perspective. :) Well done on the second take, more "focussed" than the original.

Good video there. Thanks for taking the time to improve the video but I liked both versions. Sad to hear what happened to Julian Iilett's video getting demonitized and that is why I support you creators here and it does make me feel better about using adblockers because I rather pay you more directly for stuff that I enjoy and keep big businesses grubby hands off the damn money. youtube is a cesspool of cancer anymore and I am tired of them catering to the special "snowflake" advertisers and minority of viewers. Also I did appreciate you and AvE helping cody out when he had his channel temporarily banned from uploading videos due to especially a unlisted patreon video. PISS OFF YOUTUBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Old Smokey had one of his MRE videos demonetized his Veterans Day video (of a K-ration) before he could even PUBLISH IT! I'm hearing that unlisting the video THEN submitting it for monetization works, but the entire thing is something only YouTube could come up with. Great video, Clive, and very informative! This version seems much less rushed, but I don't think anyone who doesn't watch your stuff regularly would notice it in the first one.

Puts my biotech scientist hat on: the biggest reason that the UV-C lights are germicidal (and dangerous to humans) are because they cause direct damage to the nucelic acids and proteins in the organisms. In biology/biochemistry, we use the absorption at 260nm to read RNA/DNA concentration and 280nm for proteins. These are the points of maximum absorption for these materials. In particular, it is typically the nucleic acid (RNA/DNA) damage that kills the organisms. Because the high energy UV-C radiation also overlaps with the absorption maximum for the DNA/RNA and proteins, it heavily damages all of these materials. The damage to the proteins is what cause the denaturing of the proteins aka milkyness in the eyes (and other places), but that is not what is fatal to the organisms. The proteins in the bacteria/fungi/etc. can always be replaced. The genetic damage, on the other hand, is what kills the organisms. While small amounts of damage to DNA/RNA can be repaired, the UV_C just chews the DNA/RNA apart, far beyond repair. This high nucleic acid damage causes the cell to either dye during replication or to trigger its own death mechanisms (called apoptosis).

Bummer for Julian... That stuff is so unpredictable. Not worth the time to create anymore.

Realize this your real life, but I love watching events develop. Netflix/Hulu/Amazon/CBS/Etc are dropping millions trying to figure out what the game is after broadcast TV is over. I enjoyed your previous version, Big Clive. But the extra effort is much appreciated - it's more succinct. I did enjoy getting a peak at the sterilization tube through the safety of internet - I used to have one for a water treatment system and was curious what it looked like. Why does all the cool looking stuff have to be so dangerous?

I can’t believe that YouTubes algorithm is so messed up, at least you have something to fall back on Clive. Keep making great videos, you are the one that inspired me to start learning about electronics.
