Nicely machined LED lamp housings.

This channel used to have a lot of LED lamp videos, so I thought it was time to look at some current units that seem nicely machined.

If it is optical pickup, the tech needs to open the pedal and point a high frequency pulse width modulated LED light at it to see which component is picking up the noise. They can then add a bit of black tape or some other optical screen to reduce the risk of external light affecting it.

Great stuff as usual, Clive! Yeah that housing is beautiful, and the lens had some thought put into it.

Thanks for the explanation! I'll ask him to try out a few things with that in mind next time we cross paths! The noise were more of a high pitched squeal in contrast to the ususal dimmer hum. Would the same thing happen with conventionals though? They only had the issue with the g-spot and the quantum profile, not with other profile fixtures.

Those look intriguing. I'll check them out. The Poundland stuff is similar to last year with a few changes.

It's possible that there is a light sensitive component in the pedal. Sometimes the older units use optically coupled components for automatic gain control, and even the humble LED can generate a small current when illuminated. It would have been making the pulse width modulation frequency of the LEDs audible.

With LED frequencies and noise in mind, we had an odd occurence at a theater the other day. A SGM G-Spot (I know) produced noise in a vintage inspired pedal-EQ which the bass-player used. The weird part was that it went away when the bassist shadowed the spot light. It is also on separate breakers, and power distribution grid from what gets sent to the lights. The audio tech swore a lot about those damn (not the actual profanity, that wouldn't fit here) new LEDs everywhere before resigning and pulling the pedal from the setup. I didn't think the light could produce interference of that kind itself, so if you have some insights to this Clive, I at least would find it interesting.

Thanx Clive for making an LED video again! Will you also be looking at this years Christmas lights? I don't live in the UK but still for some reason I like to watch your video's about what poundland has to offer. This year I saw some very pretty (not cheap) subtle flickering lights for the first time... they call it firefly effect http://www.konstsmide.se/en/products.asp?pid=38629&vg=2&pg=240&pf=2409&lang=36 It is not like the chinese flickering leds which are not so pretty. It's a very good effect!
