Heat sensitive nail varnish.

There are a few different nail lacquers/polishes/varnishes that have technical uses. Here's a demo.

made my day watching u do your nails

You can get thermochromic paint the changes colour permanently within different ranges of temperature so you can see if something has overheated at some point.

Malcolm J Bannister

So it's either painting your finger nails on purpose or drawing a cock and balls on the back of your hand, both of which you said were not good ideas :-) .

Best dollar ever spent. Grown man playing with nail polish. Thanks Clive this was actually really informative.

Being 'a lady' myself, I have been using my nail varnishes for tech stuff for a while now. Especially the various clear UV gel types are in my toolbox instead of with my 'beauty stuff'. If the UV varnish doesn't say 'no wipe' it will stay sticky after curing. You can easily remove this by lightly rubbing it with alcohol or acetone. These types have a hard but kind of rubbery consistency after curing. Then you also have the 'no wipe' type which doesn't stay sticky and is much harder and more brittle. There is also a very thick type called 'builder gel' which is also very hard and durable and can be used to create more volume in one go. I create custom waterproof LEDs with these gels by encapsulating wired smd LEDs. Works so much better and faster than resin!

The conformal coatings used on industrial equipment tend to brown up over time. Spotting the difference between low heat over time compared to the high heat of a burn up cram btw a challenge some times.

I have some conformal coating I use for qaudcopter control boards and exposed electrical contacts. I generally use the silicone based stuff, however there are many types including acrylic so in that regard it would be just like nail varnish, I don't use the spray on stuff I use the brush on stuff and the bottles do look like nail varnish 👍

I use conformal coating regularly on the electrical control boxes of cars that have a tendency to leak. If you spray it into the cap, you can apply it more delicately with a small brush.

I was referring to the heat generated during curing that did cause the colour change, but was seemingly generated by the curing process itself.

Big Clive

It came from Poundland in the UK a while back.

You repeatedly describe the reaction as exothermic, but exothermic means that it generates heat. Since the substance changes color when heated, in this case I think the word you want is "Thermochromatic".

I use those fingernail UV drying lights to make my role playing game dice iridesce, various plastics and finishes give very different results. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7zqHU4i4bk

The concrete effect varnish looks useful. Did you get it ebay? Had a look but nearest ebay gives is colour changing grey. Would love to get some of the textured varnish. A few dabs might give a better grip on my darts.

Ok can't wait for the video and thanks for the reply

I never name the power supply I normally use because it has a design defect. I'll upload a video about that at some point.

Big Clive

Big clive, i was wondering what power supply you use or recommend.
