Inside the cheapest remote socket on eBay.

Shitty case and a low price, but looks can be deceiving.

This unit lacks a thermal fuse in the vicinity of the relay contacts to detect meltdown, so it shouldn't be used with a high load.  It also has a fake earth/ground connection for those in three-pin countries.

The remotes it works with are the common RC5 style infrared remotes.  It doesn't come with one, but the very common RGB remotes work fine.

Apologies for the slight loss of focus at the end, I was keeping the camera focused to the depth of the thermal camera while checking the temperature rise.

Quiescent current while the relay is off is about 4mA.

Yeah, looking at it as $5 for an IR-controllable relay does open possibilities. Although from a battery powered PoV the current drain is not ideal, if you're on the grid that's awesome.

Very interesting “guts” which might be useful elsewhere as you say. Hmmm.

It's not right up against the capacitor, which is good.

So they placed the electrolytic capacitor seemingly in close proximity to one of two heat sources on the PCB. In my experience that will lower the operational life of the cap unless it's designed for the heat. A nit pick ill admit. Yeah it is really cool for the money though. That thermal camera is awesome.
