Crazy Russian Sparker.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5uiupJQc9M

As promised, the teardown of a very simple but also very shady device.

I have since fixed it, but I think the windings may be a bit fried due to unreasonable technical abuse.

Almost as scary as the electric baby boiler you looked at some time ago.

I remember my parents having a gas starter that looked kind of similar but instead of connecting it to mains, you had to squeesh a strangely spongy-feeling button at the side of it that resulted in sparks at the end the tool and the number of sparks was directly related to how quickly or deeply you pressed that button.

Indeed scary and most entertaining!

That is one of the scariest items you have investigated so far. Ukrainians make good heavy stuff like battle tanks and large aircraft but this doesn’t translate well into electronic gizmos! Good one Big Clive. The scarier the better!

It's kind of like the little shockers I used to make in grade school. Just a couple of batteries and a relay with the coil wired to the batteries through its own NC contacts. When it energized, it immediately turned itself off, which caused it to turn on again. The inductive kick produced a pretty good zap if you got someone to touch it. XD

It's a really standard illuminated magnifier sold by Chinese sellers on eBay.

The dilution level makes sense.

I remember this thing being widely used in Bulgaria (maybe most of eastern europe) in the 80s and 90s and probably people probably still use it today. Played a lot with it as a kid at my grandparents :). Also the first thing - спиртомер translates roughly "spirits measure" it is used mostly to check the spirits level in when making moonshine (rakia/vodka) and later when bottling you add water until the mix is 40% :)

That's brilliantly horrific, there needs to be a scale for deadly dangerous electrical stuff available on the internet. I laughed when I saw the nail drop out!

Can I ask what magnifying glass do you use in the videos to read the tiny markings on components and where can I get one like it?
