Fixing a duff USB power supply.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkQ9HN7QNNk

I wonder if this thing had a rough shipping experience, since the case seemed a bit weak and there was possibly a vibration/impact induced issue.

The product gets an extra star for physically gluing the main electrolytic to a hot transistor.

Also wondering why 5 of the USB ports are red and the last one green...

I can't get over the PRODUCT SCHEMATIC decal over the screen. You just know this is the equivalent of a birthday cake with "Happy Birthday NAME HERE" iced in beautiful lettering. At least it's not Times New Roman.

I would have felt pissed off that I didn't get a schematic diagram along with the faulty unit... I mean, it's right there in the name. In seriousness, this was a highly useful and informative teardown. I really need to get a set of those stainless steel desoldering-pokey-tube-things.

Chris Talbot

I'll drink to that!

Great video Big Clive. Really learn as you talk and schematic through the possible issue. Ralphy can probably suggest a most efficacious liquid “cure”.

Same here. The number of times I’ll go on eBay or Amazon to look at stuff, if I buy it or not I’ll be inundated with adverts for the next fortnight. Surely they are wasting their efforts by advertising something I already bought!

If you take nothing, the cold will be gone in a week. If you take remedies and tablets, it’ll be gone in only 7 days. Vitamins and minerals are only worth taking if you are deficient in any of them. Vitamin C stopping a cold is a very 1980’s view. It’s now added to most foods and drinks so it’s not the problem it used to be. Many people in the UK are deficient in vitamin D because of the weather and most jobs are indoors. I used to get a cold every 6 weeks which lead to sinusitis. I started taking vitamin D every day and apart from that flu thing that was going around around Christmas, I haven’t had a cold or sinus problems in 15 months. Not because vitamin D stops colds, because I’m normally deficient in vitamin D.

Those stainless steel desoldering thingies are really useful. Got me out of trouble a couple of times. I've also used one size for extracting the pins in big Amphenol connectors. Much cheaper than the proper tool.

I bought one of these a year or two back. The outputs are all paralleled and connected directly to the 5v output of the supply, so no individual control. The only connection to the logic is for the current sense resistors. The voltage meter seems to be entirely fictional and never said anything other than 5v.

Shows how insidious Alphabet is. Using tags in YouTube videos I watch to serve up on Adsense. I hate targeted ads. Nothing worse than clicking on one item on one site that you decide is unsuitable only to be bombarded by advertisements for the item on every other site you visit. The website sites make out you are the bad one for using an ad blocker, but they have only themselves to blame.

Hmm, might have been because of the video tags product schematic, usb and gearbest. Not sure.

Big Clive

Really weird, minutes after seeing this on Patreon, an advert from Gearbest appeared in my Instagram feed advertising this very item. Prior to that, never seen a charger like this.

Kevin Leah (AKA Zoinks!)

for the record, I have used gearbest alot and have been fine, although the capcha on their site never works the first time..

Somebody translated the wrong page of the spec sheet :-)

It's "Product Schematic" brand...? ROFL!!! (You might try taking zinc and vitamin C tablets to help with the cold.)
