Demonetized again.

Yay!  YouTube has demonetised the video where I show how carrying Aspirin with you could potentially help save someones life by reducing platelet action in their blood in the event of a heart attack.

I'll admit some of my videos do cross the line a bit, so I'm not too bothered when they get demonetized since I'd rather put up the naughty content, but this seems a bit odd.

It just makes me appreciate you guys all the more.

Out of all your videos, I figured that one wouldn’t get flagged. Bet the yogurt video is next...

Brad Heightman

Even trained First Aiders are discouraged from administering any kind of medication (at least here in Australia), unless it is a specifically prescribed medication carried by the victim and is relevant to the emergency (e.g. prescribed heart attack medication or insulin). The official Red Cross or St. John's Ambulance endorsed First Aid kits which are often supplied to attendees at training sessions used to contain a quantity of Paracetamol; this is no longer the case due to potential interactions with other medications or complications should the victim require emergency surgery. [This comment thread reminds me that it's probably about time to renew my First Aid certification]

Chris Talbot

Yes, terroristic Asspods. Oh the humanity. Fortunately, you have no need to rely on YouTube to fund your channel. Your humble presentation is the whole reason I even got on Patreon.

Unfortunately, like others have probably said, its illegal to supply drugs like aspirin or paracetamol to others in the UK. Whilst the drugs are not controlled they could, potentially, cause someone harm. I believe you have to be "trained" as a first aider in order to give them out. Anyway, as a minor heart attack victim go no where without my nitroglycerin

Demolished Man

I think it's just the fact that everything technical and chemical also has terrorist uses, so it's hard to differentiate between genuine technical videos and the pretend-terrorists that have caused the problem in the first place by putting up controversial videos.

Big Clive

Given all the great channels that are having this trouble, it seems to me You Tube is trying to figure out how to change it's operating dogma from being "Video for the People" to "Yet another commercial channel." They seem to be slowly culling out content, algorithmically - which accounts for some of the utter blunders they've made - Artificial Intelligence can also be Artificial Stupidity depending on how you look at it. "Intelligence" is subjective. In any case, it seems they're trying to boost commercial content slowly and not-so-subtly. We viewers are like the frogs in the pot slowly being brought to boil. Soon, all that will on You Tube is content that is paid to be aired (by producers, or advertisers) - like every commercial channel on earth. It sort of makes sense. Someone at Google figured out they already have most of the money on planet Earth, the rest can be gotten by mining these gems they've picked up over the years. Just remember - re: Google - when they started, Page and Brin made a big deal about the fact their published corporate ethos/goal/objective was "Don't Be Evil." Anyone remember that? No? Ever hear them say it anymore? Wonder why? Money changes everything.

iceowl

Oh dear, better go back to making fireworks-in-the-sex-organs videos I guess. That's still your most memorable one. YouTube seems determined to make Patreon the backbone of small content producers.

Moz in Oz

I don’t like it, but I sort of understand it. Anyone dealing with anything that may constitute medical advice is under a microscope as YouTube doesn’t want lawsuits from someone (stupid) doing something according to a YouTube video then causing lawsuits when they screw up, even when the advice is sound.

The Griffiths Family

No, see, that's the problem. They're NOT demonetising those who make them the bulk of their money, even when that content is a pile of shit. They ARE demonetising those channels with <1mil subscribers who make them a little bit of money, but not enough to justify the risk of pissing off advertising partners. Unfortunately those tend to be the channels producing actual useful/interesting/controversial content. There are already plenty of "open-source" alternatives to youtube, the problem is convincing people to use them.

Chris Talbot

AvE doesn't escape demonetisation. I think he even posted a screenshot of the manager page listing some of his videos, showing many had been demonetised. Or I could be thinking of another channel. Regardless, AvE has stated multiple times that he supports his viewers use of adblockers when watching his content, and values their support through Patreon.

Justin Smith

We appreciate you, too!

Jeremy Impson

That’s just stupid... plain and simple... NO CLIVE ... HOW DARE YOU HELP PEOPLE!... jeez... I can’t help wondering where I should keep my aspirin ....

I wonder how AvE manages to escape the demonetisation. Have a look at his video "DYSON ANIMAL BALLS | It blows!" - His swearing sticks out like a sore thumb throughout the video, yet it's still clearly monetised with ads.

Seán Byrne

Upgraded pledge too. Keep doing what you do Clive.

Just upgraded my pledge to help push the FUCK YOU TO YOUTUBE. Cheers Clive.

Newcastlewatson

Aspirin is standard issue for anyone with heart problems! Good on you Clive for making Videos that you believe in. Youtube have very strange standards, ones that only serve them, not us, the public that actually make the money for youtube......

Richard Boyce

YouTube has great financial incentive to extinguish edginess and force creators to make advertiser-optimized content on their ideal schedule. I'm happy to support you here, Big Clive, so you can make the content that YOU want to make without YouTube pulling the strings. :D

Dan

We're also told to give Aspirin to suspected heart attack victims here in Australia. If you believe this to be bad advice, lobby your local medical authorities - not Clive.

Do they give a reason for it? I think tide pod might be one reason the bot went for it.

Andreas

I bet they have their bots looking for videos trying to suggest eating tidepods. So have "pod" as one of the keywords.

Despite what I just said, if an advertiser list in their terms of advertisement, that they do not want to be associated with individuals giving medical advice, google/youtube has no choice but to respect their contract terms, or risk the corporation terminating their contract. Or being sued for breach.

Joelle Seguin

While I do not agree with youtubers without medical training giving medical advice, I don't see how the video can be legitimately demonetized. It contains nothing offensive or derogatory or politically charged, and it's not derisive or controversial. I do believe it does not contain sufficient warnings, and I think you should have made it clear to seek your physician's advice before taking any substance with medical ingredients.

Joelle Seguin

YouTube doing the usual self harm (As if they don't make any money from videos demonetising everything they will simple suck up more of Google's money)

Christopher Smith

Urging people to pop pills (regardless it's life-threatening situations) paints you as a drug pusher. Glad YouBoob finally caught up with you! <insane cackle=""></insane>

How unfortunate hopefully they will reinstate it shortly ; YouTube's bots likely flagged you at (Ass) + (Asprin)

Ryan G.

Ridiculous!

You say that like it wasn't always a cesspool.

Ryan G.

That’s the way YouTube is going, hopefully they will reinstate it asap as it was content that might actually save lives. I’m very happy to fund via Patreon though, loving the content Clive.

LANDLINEMAN.com

YouTube has become such a cesspool...

Ms. Fixit

How sad. Google is shooting themselves in the foot more and more each day.

Aaron the Tinkerer

Whaou... 500mg of aspirin in your pocket ! They should have put you in jail for that !

Axel

my aspods arrived today...great advice and screw the youtube bots!

no good deed go unpunished. you do you BC, ill support you here

Happy to keep helping you make the "naughty content" Clive. You do you.

Dan Craggs

that'll learn you to try and save lives. Maybe you should have tried to molest a bunch of cartoon characters while wearing a spider-man costume.

Commando Brando

Just upped my patreon to $5 level. I learn so much, and enjoy your company.

Kevin Hardisty

Bunch of wankers.

hmm amateur prescription probably frowned on by the algorithm (You probably shouldn't send out pills with the pods either, just in case someone with an allergy or an ulcer noms them, becomes unwell and sues you)

Idiots! I just increased my pledge to compensate.

Nils Normann

AI rules again Clive, perhaps a tear down of one of You Tube servers would be in order!. (or perhaps of the clod who programmed them).

Edward Parker

Maybe Bayer's law department got in touch, because he used their property, Aspirin™®©ª. ª-Aspirin™®©, hereafter referred to as The Product is, and will always remain, the sole property of Bayer AG (FWB: BAYN). Any and all use, including but not limited to, depictions of (in any form of media), descriptions of (both in text and orally), references to (including and not limited to those provided for in so-called 'fair-use' legislature) as well as any facts or opinions regarding The Product are forbidden and punishable by International Law. Any infringement of these Terms carries a Sentence of 50 years of continuous sensory deprivation and waterboarding, as is usual practice for property protected by the DMCA, death by the Iron Maiden device and a fine, not exceeding $1,000,000, for each unauthorized use of The Product. Sentences are non-communicable and not to be served concurrently. Bayer AG (FWB: BAYN), reserves the right to fully pardon any and all legal transgressions committed by its employees, including any possible Human Rights violations as described in the Geneva Convention.

l have monthly visits to my NHS Coag clinic , on tuesday l went and the TRAINED NHS nurse and myself discussed this video as l asked her opinion.......she said all the medical details Big Clive expressed were correct , she then explained in the same way as Clive about platelets etc ,,,and also about possibly combined therapy in the event of admittance to hospital etc....l came away satisfied that l could quite happily pass on Clive s video........however some ( no doubt medically UNTRAINED ) Youtube xpert decided they know better

John Catterall

Fuckers :/

Per 'Zapro' Jensen

Wayne, yeah. :( YT's recent algorithms in response to the whole viewer-targeted ads thing (AdPocalypse) is total polo. :(

Martel DuVigneaud

YouTube gonna YouTube. That sucks, Clive. I hope they get their priorities straightened out, or better yet, a true competitor emerges.

Dylan Z. Neill

Totally baffled. Why?

Kevin Hardisty

YouTube fascinates me, they seem to punish people for doing good things. I'm an advanced first aider and know about using aspirin for suspected heart attack, bit many people would not know and potentially your video could save lives. This is why I'm a proud patron Clive.

Dave Ahern

Hmm. I should eat a Tide pod.

Big Clive

Would any other industry put up with a company that just said "We've decided not to pay you what we owe you. And we're not going to tell you why. And even after we agree that we were wrong not to pay you, we're still not going to pay you."

John Ridley

I think every video with "pod" in it gets demonetised now (because of that laundry pod challenge with kids eating these pods)

Probably the emphasis on ASS in the pronunciation tripped you up in the language filter. Just a thought...

Dustin

I'm sure it's automated because it classed the video as drugs or something. You should be able to appeal it though and see if the YouTube staff will see the good side to it. Best of luck Clive!

Terrum

Big Clive gives sound medical advice, backed by science. DEMONITIZED. Pseudoscience like Homeopathy, Dr Oz, Dr Phil and all that other abloid garbage is probably getting along fine.

Loscha

Screw that, I just doubled my pledge, wish I could send you South African cookies and things!

That sucks, but looking on the bright side, the message got out and is still out there, and if it helps one person it'll be worth it. YouTube, get your act together!

I wonder if that’ll work in Tesco. “Shoplifting? No mate, I just demonetised the beans.”

Jonathan Smith

you should fight it. I was told that the algorythm takes in to account how many wronguns you already have before judging you.

There really is no logic with YT sometimes. They really need a kick up the ass.

Paul Carey

Ridicul-ASS

Undoubtedly it's the word "ass" in the title. Ridiculous.

YouTube are morons. They keep doing things like this to those who make them all their money. There needs to be a real YouTube alternative that vbloggers can turn to.

John Russell

Some people just can't handle a little ass-pod I guess

What reason did they give? Did someone report the video or is it their retard algorithm that deemed the video inappropriate?

a) YouTube have more money. b) The terms and conditions make it clear they can do this. Not sure on what grounds anyone *could* sue them. YouTube is a private company and is free to set whatever limits it wants. c) Demonetization can be appealed, but I guess Clive may follow the "life's too short" principle.

Mike Knell

Seems to be a real epidemic these days. Another channel I follow (The Guitologist) had a video demonitized for talking about his toolkit. (He mentioned "tool" and "strippers" too many times..

Phil Collins

I, for one, welcome our new incompetent algorithmic overlords

I'm really looking forward to the day YouTube does this to someone who has the money and they finally get sued for this crap.

Yeah. How dare you help someone stay alive. Trump disapproves.

Pixscotland

YouTube really needs to get their act together.

TaterBaiter

A new low. Did they give a reason? Please not “drug content”??!!

Damn their eyes

Michael Thompson
