Poundland's spooky lights.

These are SO annoying.  The novelty wears off very quickly.

Like many other Halloween novelties they can be a bit loud and repetitive, especially as they appear to be sound activated.  But they can be scavenged for bits.

I like it!

Gadgetman

But that wouldn't have detected vibration like the piezo does.

Gadgetman

Cant believe they missed the trick of having the speaker double up as a microphone - could have saved them a few cents ;-)

Gordo

No. Sadly not. I prodded both the other resistors with a licked finger to try and get it to change pitch and nothing happened.

Big Clive

is it one of the noisy things that gets more amusing if you poke a resistor with a licked finger when its making noise?

Zach Allin

Really benefit from your circuit breakdown and explanations. Each time I get to understand a little more confidently how the main components work. Thanks.

Interesting, but yeah that noise got old before the video was over! :D I suppose one could add a pot for volume control, but it should have at least one other LED mode.

Michael Thompson

I'd guess they're mask programmed at the factory. The Halloween market is so huge that it's probably a very common chip.

Big Clive

Do you know how they program those chips? I assume it is a pretty generic package under that silastic/tar? Do they just send the sound effects to the factory that makes them?

Lostngone

we don't have most of the cool led caps you have
