LED lamps and shady nightclubs.

While making this video I casually mentioned a club event I used to attend in Glasgow. It was the first place I saw the OSRAM circolux fluorescent lamps, and I immediately hunted some down because I thought they were very interesting.

Then while preparing the second part of the video I casually did a search for the event and discovered it had hit the headlines big-time due to the "evidence" found by the police during a raid. I'd just like to say that I didn't actually see any of "that" going on any time I was there. The only side I saw involved cider, thumping dance music and a good atmosphere.

I certainly remember getting some Scott Brown mix-tapes from the Barras.

Yo, keep up your talk of your raving days. Next youl'l be talkin bout goin to see some lanky red head in Glasgow called Scott Brown.

I once worked in a consumer electronics repair shop where nobody bothered to do this, and every single meter always had a blown fuse on the mA input. And for the same reason, T250mA fuses were always rare as hen's teeth. Bloody annoying!

Newspaper accounts are typically lurid to enhance circulation. When my Dad returned from the South Pacific after WW2, he tore down a bar's awning one night, probably in sheer joy for being alive. You would have thought he was public enemy No. 1 from the news accounts. Oh, spicy!

Can testify to changing leads back. Was measuring current and left my leads in 10A. Went to measure the voltage on an automotive relay and blew the fuse in my Amecal meter. Some replacements on the way!

Looks like the Arches has been "repurposed" as a space for corporate events, weddings and the like. Curiously enough it has a late licence (because nobody ever takes drugs or has a sneaky shag at a corporate event or a wedding, right?). Their website is spectacularly impenetrable: https://argylestarches.com/

Given the sheer scale of YouTube and the fact that around 400 hours of video content are uploaded every minute, I'd say the reliability is incredible. Especially given that they had the system back up and running in an hour.

When you open the unit if there is one electrolytic capacitor in the marked place it's for 220-240V. If there are two electrolytic capacitors in diode positions it's a voltage doubler and intended for 120V. I'm just popping the lids on a bagful here to see if any are affected.

Big Clive or AvE broke YouTube. I got to watch both videos and then nada. Haha. Or they shouldn't upload near the same time.

Has YouTube been hacked, do you think?

Seems to be a systemic YouTube outage.

I remember those lamps too, not a bad light and they seem to run a long time too.

Nice to see you with a soldering iron back in your hand. 😁

Those small circular fluorescent lamps seem to be quite common on table lamps in the US. While visiting relatives in Chicago earlier this year, I remember coming across a few table lamps with them. I never checked what brand of tube any of them had. They sure gave off plenty of light, but then again most rooms there use table and pedestal lamps where the plug socket is controlled by the light switch. Indeed I already did the mistake of plugging my phone in place of a lamp, only to later re-enter in the room, flick the switch and my phone went bleep instead of the light coming on . . .

Now i would love to fined one of these .. how can i find one ??

Is there a quick way to check if those LED driver packages are correctly labeled? Got a supply of them a few days ago to make my own xmas lights and don't want them to go bang when I plug them in :D
