Interesting emergency lamp circuitry.

I should have taken one of these apart sooner, but with the module out of the emergency light that ended up being recalled it gave me an excuse to dismantle one completely for closer analysis.

It's very interesting circuitry.  They've used some clever tricks to keep the cost and component count down.

Interesting emergency lamp circuitry.

I did notice that some of the listings used the words "intelligent" and "emergency" when they seemed to be for ordinary lamps. Open a dispute and when they try to offer 50% refund or ask you to send them back decline and ask for a pre-paid return label.

just taken delivery of 8 of these, thought they're a great idea for hallwys and by the fuseboard. i've been shipped basic led lamps, nothing 'smart' about them. swines. paid over the odds for a bloomin' led bulb :( ebay complaint here we come :D

I wonder how many customers are "Free energy" video creators... ;-)

And solar panels.

Believe it or not there is a version of this with built-in USB power bank!

I love the insight that is brought to devices like this one.

Thanks for explaining this so well. I'd never have thought how much know-how was behind some of the resistor's values. Really neat design.

Tact. The importer is having to deal with a huge recall.

Why not release a vid to youtube even if the product got recalled?

Keywords on eBay... LED E27 intelligent emergency Look for the listings that show people holding the lit lamp with their fingers over the contacts. Typical price between $3 to $5.

It's in the queue for a video.

It seems like when I need a Big Clive video the most there's always one there waiting for me. Therapeutic is what I'm saying, not to mention entertaining and provocative.

This is the first time I've heard the "bucket of water with a hole in it"-explanation for a snubber network. I never really understood how that works - until just now. Thanks!

Thanks Clive. When are you going to take the CPC emergency light to bits?

What a cool lamp. I must have her!

I think this device might have been designed for areas with poor power reliability so that they can still have switchable room lights on demand even during power loss. In that instance it makes sense to conserve the battery power until needed. They also do a screw on cap with a click on/off button on the end so you can use it as a stand alone light.

Really good teardown Clive, incredibly informative and detailed. Quite a clever circuit although I have my reservations on the "load sense" part. Emergency lights should just come on I believe.. Cheers mate, thoroughly enjoyed the video.
