Dodgy rechargeable touch light.

This initially looked like quite a nice little touch sensitive desk light.

Then I discovered that the lithium charge circuitry is "minimalist". Which is a shame, because otherwise it looks quite a neat unit and performs well.

Totally hackable to people like us though.

It reminds me of that too.

Interesting. Looks a more complex chip than this one.

Here's the lamp and PCB for comparison's sake. https://imgur.com/a/Cl7CuXQ It appears to use a SGL8022WS "Touch LED PWM module"

I tested that and the quiescent current in standby is less then 10uA. That's very good.

Big Clive

Suspiciously cheap. But perfect as a project case.

It kinda looks like the attacking ships in war of the worlds.

This looks almost identical to a $4 lamp from Dollarama here in Canada, with the obvious difference being that the Dollarama one uses 3 AA cells and lacks the USB port. Surprisingly, the quiescent current of the touch module must be quite low as batteries don't go flat with it sitting. The PCB is very similar.

Just Kidding...Found It.

Having Problem Finding "Dodgy rechargeable touch light" On Ebay...What Do I Search For?

There are Li-Ion batterys in AA size *14500 and AAA size *10440 just as an FYI. I use them all the time when fixing things that suffer from being not modified so I can get better run time rechargeable thing. Its amazing how cheap you can put batterys, battery protection, charger and switching regulator. Almost as amazing as how small this stuff has become.

My girlfriend has the same lamp - but hers is branded (advertisement thingy) and it charges with a small DC-barrel jack in the back. I might have her open it just to confirm that it carries protection circuitry. Also, hers is a terrible cold white, so we've planned to replace the LED's in it.

This company is a dick to lithium cells. :(

Michael Thompson

A hazardous little thing. The diode is there to block backfeeding the USB connection. It is not there to protect the cell in any wat or form.
