Channel strike removed.

Well that's a relief, although I didn't get much sleep last night.

I'm going to delete that video completely as the sales director of the Dutch company involved seems to be detached from reality.

Perhaps I'll make a new video about other eBay switches with any logos blacked out.

Dear bigclivedotcom,

Thank you for submitting your video appeal to YouTube. After further review, we've determined that your video doesn't violate our Community Guidelines. Your video has been reinstated and your account is in good standing.

"full of [Deleted Video] links so it's not even possible to know what was there" - You can still most of the time search for the URL or at least the YouTube video code on Google, and the search results will be hits from people in forums and the like recommending the video, or be outright the video title and description, giving you quite often enough of a hint to find a replacement.

There's one way to test that. It involves the unit and a baby.

Big Clive

One of many reasons I enjoy your channel is your information on knock off products. I thinking of the nitetube here as an example. I not only have several, I have given them as gifts. It's gtn that there are fakes, and how to tell they are fake.. but also to be honest that the fake.. might be as good as, or have a chip that offers a different feature that some may prefer. This is what makes your channel great. Blocking out logos would counter this positive aspect of the channel. There are always going to be haters. You could always say "I got it off ebay, it's not to be certain that this product is genuine". They can stirke yo all they like, but you did state a disclaimer... if you must. The disclaimer rather then blurring out a logo I think should do the trick.

Not Public

This reinforces my view that good videos should be downloaded and stored locally. Not because I'm a dirty pirate, but for posterity. Many of us have a bunch of tutorial, repair and DIY videos saved in playlists. Some very entertaining ones too. But they are not safe. They could all randomly be hit by a copyright strike and disappear any day, and their creators may have left YouTube for other persuits, or may no longer be with us. Some of my favourite videos are no longer online. Many of my playlists on YouTube are full of [Deleted Video] links so it's not even possible to know what was there. Erased from existence. "Electronics Trivia" by Steve Wagner - one of the most informative electronics teaching channels by a real veteran of the trade - has gone dark and I'm concerned the creator has left our planet for good, as he was suffering from health issues. Some of his videos still seem to be online, but there'll be a teaching series where numbers 3, 7 and 12 are missing. I doubt he would have removed these from public view, but they're probably being hit by random copyright strikes and he may no longer be around to defend the claims. I'm sure he would prefer his legacy to stay around long after he's gone, but it seems to be eroded more and more every day. I found an EEVBlog post where people are trying to track him down, but haven't heard any positive news :(

Nice one Clive.. I wonder what message this eBay ad is trying top convey.. https://bit.ly/2TYVfIa

As that person is a Sales Director they will change jobs within 3 years to up their already ridiculous salary.

Christopher Smith

Good. What a bunch of wankers.

Cryphius

Glad to see someone at YouTube accepted the appeal request to undo the strike. Personally I don't see what Clive did being any different to the BBC (and other public TV broadcasters) showing examples of counterfeit products with the brand logos on TV, such as the odd travel programme that shows examples of what to avoid at street stalls.

Seán Byrne

No point Clive having sleepless nights over it. Better to just get rid

You figure you did them a solid by showing them someone was selling copies of the switch. Ungrateful I'm glad it turned out for ya.

if YouTube says it can stay up leave it up

God 420

Make a copy and send it to him for Christmas. Then sign it.

Moujen.

Per 'Zapro' Jensen

This makes me sad :(

Per 'Zapro' Jensen

Hey BCDC, glad to hear you got it sorted!

How's about publishing this/those video(s) on another platform like Vimeo?

Jörg Schötz

Proof of why automation isn't always good. Anyone want to see Big Clive dismantle the YouTube Ban Bot for analysis of why it's a pile of shite? 🤣 On a serious note Clive fantastic news.

Mike Broom

A certain Dutch company can go feck itself next time I buy parts.

Wim

At least be sure to keep a personal offline copy if you don't already have one. Maybe someday you'd want to post it on another video host or even file sharing system.

You can always send messages here on Patreon.

When Cody first had that issue I made a video pointing people to his emergency backup channel and then made my own emergency video for directing people to mine.

Big Clive

Your integrity speaks for itself. Breathe deep and have a brewsky or two. I'm grateful that YouTube did the only sensible thing and saw the complaint as the fallacious pile of garbage that it was. Keep up the excellent work, sir.

Alex

This is why I'm not a fan of automated systems responsible for things like punishments. They only really work on the most blatant violations and to varying degrees on less blatant ones.

Score one for the good guys! When I saw the first email pop up on the phone I thought it was all over for Clive. Had to pull into the side of the road to read it properly. It really scared me that a (braindead functionary) business could potentially destroy a youtuber with the click of a button. You've had queries on your uploads before - the original flame led lamp and the wood art videos. You and them sorted it out amicably but a business slapping a threat on you and you having to delete the video is just pure scum. BTW - can we see the "offending" video before you delete it?

John Carr

But what if the Dutch firm filed a strike against you anyway, because you'd reviewed something similar to what they made? That's the basic flaw in YouTube, They don't push back against false complaints and it only takes one company/person filing complaints that you have to fight, to ban you. I've see this happen on a lot of channels the last year.

Would you mind naming the switch co so I can be sure to not buy their switches in future?

Russians interfering with elections on social media? NO PROBLEM! Big Clive posting a video about limit switches that contains a fake logo? MASSIVE PROBLEM BRO! Safe to say we know where googles heart is at.

Michael Gilchrest

Well, that’s good.

Michael Gilchrest

The problem is that youtube is effectively a publisher and publishers are as liable for IP infringments etc as the content providers, particularly if the IP rights holder complains to youtube and the infringing material is not taken down - because then youtube can't claim it was an innocent infringment. Also, youtube is an excellent litigation target. Consequently, youtube cannot ignore complaints. If a whiner makes three unfounded complaints and youtube then ignores their fourth complaint and it turns out to be well founded, youtube is in the shit.

Probably this is a silly suggestion and you are best off leaving a sleeping tiger alone, given youtube's flaky and trigger happy strike policies. However, it would have to be tempting to figure out who the Dutch component maker's competitors are and review their products favourably (assuming they are OK) at every opportunity!

Rant: If YouTube is going to accept strikes against content providers, they need to accept them against whiners also. Three unfounded complaints, you can't complain anymore.

Are you going to employ any of Cody's strategies? Namely: - Have a backup channel - Pre-upload some videos as hidden just so you have some content to release "in case" - Pre-upload a "if you are seeing this, I'm already dead" kind of video that directs people to your backup channel

Silly buggers.

Stephen King

tell us what switch it is and we will all get one and ''' review ''' it on YouTube

God 420

Strike! Not out! Glad to hear. You best be on eBay buying a shed load of 'non-fake' heavy duty Sharpies.

Clive, I am glad you have got it resolved. Do you have an email I can write to? I want to offer you something. Best wishes, Tez.

Nuts 'n' Proud

Good to hear it Clive.

I think the best thing to do is, if you suspect it is a fake, splat a square of gaffer tape over it. because clearly you saying so in the video "its probably a fake" doesn't cover it enough for paranoid people. Really glad to hear the strike is removed.

Adam 'RDL' Taylor

I guess there's no chance we'll ever know which Dutch company?

Congrats Clive, nice to know there is justice..

Richard Boyce

Congratulations, it's good to know there's at least a modicum of sense left in this god forsaken world of ours

Neil Tonks

There's the temptation to review a whole range of those switches now.

Big Clive

I'm glad, Clive.

Michael Thompson

Can you put a [censored] black block over it? I wouldn't delete it completely.

David LeBlanc

Why don't they send you a legitimate one for you to compare. After all this is question of knocks off being lesser quality .

Agree, don't delete it unless YouTube asked.

Given this sort of behaviour, I think it wouldn't be completely unreasonable to name the company.

Maybe you should to a rant video. It seems to be working for Franlabs.

Nice one! Glad to hear it.

Don’t delete it. Giving into a bully!

Trent Lloyd
