Nice light. Shame about the video.

This is a very stylish and functional LED street light.  It's made by a company called Holophane which is a veteran of the lighting industry.

I filmed this at a new bench setup which isn't quite perfect yet.  I was also using Chromecast and a monitor to keep an eye on where I was in frame, and something has glitched.  I'm not sure if the phone was struggling to keep up with recording and casting simultaneously, but everything went a bit choppy after a while.  So hopefully the slight jumpiness of the video doesn't detract from what is actually quite an interesting light.

Nice light. Shame about the video.

I feel fortunate in that occasionally we get sent something like this to evaluate for repair and despite doing this for a living it's not uncommon for a few guys to come look. Many of us love what we do and seeing the insides of new stuff is still fun after all these years. I seriously appreciate the insight into that Philips controller. Damn good stuff, Clive!

Much the same as the lamp outside my window! Out the back, we have 100% solar powered street lamps.

That was common with early drivers used in street lighting. There are videos showing disco roads.

Baltimore County, MD replaced a lot of their overhead freeway lights with LED fixtures, but they seem to have gone with a low bidder, as many of them, within 2 years, are showing the tell-tale signs of power supply failures (rhythmic short super-bright flashing pulses without actually turning on).

Yeah your issue is definitely chromecast. Phones are not good at dissipating the heat from the CPU. Thats why i switched to a dedicated Sony video Camera which can stream to my phone to a sony app. So i can see what the camera sees, and even control it from there.

Sadly it doesn't have MHL support.

+My local council are replacing all of their sodium stock with these. I've not noticed a single failure yet.

Ah, you didn't search my videos for Jacobs Ladder... <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uv-6YgbDoyI" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uv-6YgbDoyI</a>

BG, please consider doimg some HT vids, like making the electrical effects that were in the old horror films, e.g. Jacob's ladder.

That said its the same ol BigCliveDotCom and I dig it man

MHL is a great idea, and certainly better than what crossed my mind. It seems like a buffering/bandwitch issue? Down to the wifi connection, and for a quality video stream I'd say a 5 Ghz would likely be required. I've got a Logitech web cam setup on my 3D printer and even when using 5 Ghz (in the same room as the Access Point) the phone almost always stutters, even my rather fancy ASUS "ROG" laptop will stutter.

Does the phone you are using support the MHL protocol? If it does, the you'll be able to run hdmi direct out of your phone via an adapter wich wouldn't tie up the phones cpu like casting the screen does. There is a list of compatible phones on the MHL website and you can get the MHL - hdmi leads with a usb charge port for no silly money.

Yeah, the phone was pretty hot when I stopped it.

How am I supposed to bill any clients if I'm watching teardowns? Priorities...

Apps like YouTube, with Chromecast built in, offloads (mostly) onto the Chromecast. Chromecast'ing your phone's screen, while using the phone, actually heats up the processor VERY well! Then you end up with the processor throttling, and the jumpiness. My child doesn't understand this, and always wants me playing phone games, cast to the big screen, for more than 10-15 minutes.
