This should be better!

I think I've hopefully resolved the camera glitching issue.  If the worst comes to the worst I can switch to using a Wiley Fox phone as a recording device with the slight downside of a less detailed image, but actually better sound.

This video is an update on a style of lamp on eBay that has the globe filled with a string of copper wire lights.  It's a good effect, although the new units have skimped on the LEDs a bit.  But it turns out (unexpectedly) that the lamps may make a great base for your own LED lamp project.

This should be better!

That bugs the crap outa me too - it's an insidious practice, using cheap options to get displayed first on a sort-by-price list. eBay should do something about it like include these at teh highest option price

Your disappointment with being able to unscrew the bulb apart was palpable. Don't worry, Clive (I keep wanting to call you Clive-O in affection) you'll be able to use your x-ray machine again on something else I'm certain! :D

That initially screwed with my head too when I first came across it. It looks like the capacitor is charged negative with respect to the negative rail so if the voltage on it is too high the current to the transistor base will instead go through the zener to the capacitor. It's one of those circuits where the achieve a lot with the minimum of components and you have to try and work out what's happening simultaneously in each section.

I think the differential pricing is less to do with demand but the classic (and annoying) gaming the system with multi option listings being sorted on the cheapest option. At least in those listings it actually was a lamp, I keep finding lots of listings for things where the cheapest is "spare fuse" or "5 cm sample length" or some such nonsense.

Interesting video as always. Im struggling to understand the FB winding / zener arrangement thou. It would be great if you see an opportunity to explain this a bit further Maybe in the next vid of a light element that uses a similar circuit Thanks

I prefer Open Camera for recording. The functions it offers will depend on hopw much access your phone gives to the camera.

Clive I wanted to ask you what apps do you use on your Moto to make your videos. I have little money but want to record any repairs or projects I do because of memory issues. I could see where I left off or a mistake I made while doing a kit. Maybe someday put a vid up. I have tried the camra app that came with my phone and others at the playstore, bit when I need to pause or zoom it can get me sea sick, lol. Thanks in advance and for all the videos and knowledge shared.

There's a good chance that the large globe will end up as a custom lamp.
