The beard club tries surstromming.

All the way from Norway, a slightly out of date tin of fermented fish.  But what does it smell and taste like?

I'm trying to come up with American oddities and sadly it seems we're kind of dry on super strange foods? Pickled pigs feet? I dunno, nothing I can think of will top this can or the Century Eggs.

If I ever get the opportunity to try this I am going to. Thanks for a great video!

Michael Thompson

The UV lamp does create a decent amount of ozone and had a good effect. It tasted quite nice. Strong like a ripe cheese.

Big Clive

Some sort of strange relative of lutefisk?

The Griffiths Family

I've had it lots of times in Finland and love it. But we always opened it outside under water and then rinsed it under the tap. Really helps with the smell. Did the UV lamp help clear the smell? Might have been better using the ozone generator.

John Carr

I did. We cleared up and the others went downstairs while I plugged the lamp into a spotlight and left the place to sterilise for a while.

Big Clive

We did ponder how bad it would be if some of the juice was poured into a car's ventilation system air intake.

Big Clive

I can smell it from here just by looking at the video thumbnail. Rather you than me!

Brave lads! That stuff could be weaponized.

I think you should have taken your “medical” uvc lamp with you to decontaminate after the fish !

I will never understand the concept of "Food that hates you and is about to ruin your day". I mean, I like rich foods, strongly savoury foods, spicy or acidic foods... to a certain point that stops short of actively perspiring. And I like to try new things from different countries as often as I can. But not to the extent where I try and turn it into some kind of Extreme Sport. :) Well done for giving it a go though. I've got a fairly strong stomach but I doubt I could manage it... really stinky blue cheese or other fermented foods are about as far as I will go.

They just get better and better! I'm loving the Manx Beard Club attacking these foods

Well done! There are videos on Youtube of Americans trying surströmming where big, strong young men break down within seconds. Thumbs up from Sweden!

Jonas Otter

Thumbs up for eating that stuff. I wouldn't have dared. What's next? Guga from the Isle of Lewis? (rare and seasonal delicacy)

some thing seems a little fisheye

God 420

What kind of Amiga is that in the background, 500, 1200?

Durian isn't so bad, if you can deal with the smell of a dead rat rotting in a wall somewhere you won't mind durian. I'm told the attraction is that it tastes better than it smells... kinda like when you stop hitting yourself on the head with a brick.

Moz in Oz

Growing up we were always told to stay away from canned goods if they were bulging... If it smells like normally how are you supposed to know if it’s gone bad???

Lostngone

You guy should try and track down a durian if you can. Don’t defrost it tho, you’ll regret it. Banned from Trains Cabs and rental cars in Singapore 😝😺

Dear god. Said the kitty. Cats are pretty selective and know the quality fish. Try feeding sushi grade fish pieces to a kitty and they will try and kill you if you interfere with there feast. They make quick work of the good stuff. Cats aren’t big fans of Durian either.
