Little RF remote modules.

These are quite neat, although not quite up to many countries standards in terms of user safety and component rating.  Notably the 125V contact rating on a 220V unit.

I use the 12 volt versions as light switch in the solar shed. Works really great. Saves a lot of wiring. The single pole switch only has one switch inside.

11:21 You have blue (marked L) to the fuse, which goes up to the zener and down to the relay common. You have the brown (marked N) going to the dropper cap and then the output terminals. Looks like the relay contacts are on live, the dropper is on neutral, with the low voltage side of the dropper under the silkscreen back to the rectifier. They wouldn't have neutral and switched neutral on the output terminal!

I always love me some RF...well...anything really. 73 DE N2NLQ

The most recent videos have been recorded with a Moto G4 plus. Previously I used an ordinary Moto G4.

Somehow I think the quality of the sound from your latest videos is somewhat less... clear? I'm not sure how to describe it, but it's a bit flat or dull. Or did the odd foods you consumed recently affected your voice?

Contact spacing is an issue, particularly with DC and AC powered inductive loads. If the contacts have low separation you can get a sustained arc between them.

Big Clive

what actually defines the contact voltage rating of a relay? surely current is a defining factor in the general size and construction of the contacts. Is it to do with arcing if the gap is too small?

220v with 125v relay.... hhmm anyone else thinking like hell would i trust that lol

For actually building into your home I'd suggest a locally available version that has been tested in your country and has extra protection. These cheap generic modules would be better kept for use in a low risk area and mounted inside plastic enclosures rated for electrical use (self extinguishing).

what are your thoughts on how to make these devices safer to use in a domestic setting, remote button activation, better strain relief on cables, improved over current/short protection?

I've got a 6 way 12v 10A version in my shed. Booked up to solar panel and batteries ready to power the different lights and a 12v Bluetooth amp I'm in the process of installing now that my decking and flagging has turned the garden in to a more useful space. Had them in about 2 years and all works well

The fuse appears to just protect the circuitry. The neutral was going to the relay common.

Big Clive

If that had the input reversed ... the relay was switching on the terminal marked Live and it was passing Neutral to the output. Looks like live input goes to the fuse, which goes to the relay common?

I cant seem to find the same one on Ebay, care to share details Clive?

Nice to see some wireless modules for comparison. I tried using something like that once. A DC one. It worked but didn't last long. :( Put me off them a bit.

dangerous and naughty these are I like them
