Seeing it now is making me realise how lucky I was that I got woken by the smell from it. In case people are wondering it was being charged up at the time with nothing else plugged into it which is really strange seeing what has failed on it. As for the safety I had a spare LiPo bag near my bed that I use for my airsoft batteries that I chucked it into and then put it out in the back garden to let it think about what it had done. Will I buy one again? yes. It had been a good reliable battery bank up to that point and I had owned it since late 2015 early 2016. It got me out of a pickle a few times when phone battery or iPad battery was dead when I was out and about.

I'm travelling at the moment, but the cells were quite thin. Not sure the exact measurements. Do the original cells have a sizing number on them.

Clive, could you please measure the cells and let me know the dimensions - I need three very thin (4mm max) lipo cells to upgrade my KX3 and most are much thicker.. If these would fit, I'll order one of these units and harvest the cells.. Cheers..

I wanted to send similar stuff to Clive to check out, but it's very expensive to ship industrial components overseas unless you are a big company. An old AB 22 PowerFlex drive might be fun to watch being dissected by the man, especially if the blocks or bus caps have let go.

I am cleaning out a rental and found three boxes of huge Allen Bradley breakers and motor controls. Interested in one for dissecting? If so, I will inventory them and let you know what I have.

All the data about the outputs is actually written on the case, just not near the output sockets. You can see it in the end of the video (top left). The "smart" port is QC2.0.

It could have been a rogue static discharge or time related failure.

Any thoughts on what caused the boost converter to fail so spectacularly? I'm sure there's some sort of output overcurrent protection, so I'm guessing it was just a resistor failing short-circuit combined with the very large output capacity of the batteries?

If you look at enough of these PSUs on Amazon, you may be struck, as I was, how many are identical apart from the name stamped on them. The same applies to USB hubs and similar cheap Chinese electrical products. I will assume that they are all identical on the inside too unless BG does a teardown of a few.

The orange USB socket will be the high amp / fast chsrge output.

I’m not sure I would describe Aukey as premium. If anyone wants a premium powerbank may I suggest Anker. They really are excellent.
