PIR LED panel incident.

This video might have been more exciting if I had either had the camera running when I shorted out the mains on the PCB with a carelessly placed probe tip, or if I'd not blown up the PCB and actually fixed it.

I filmed this a day before heading over to Glasgow, so I was trying to keep the video short due to the grindingly slow upload speeds on the Isle of Man.  That's why I didn't have the camera running when I had my little incident.

We missed the magic smoke, is that because it can’t be filmed just like vampires πŸ€”πŸ˜‚ Did the same with my most expensive and favourite leads recently, bit of spark eye later .....

Ha!! I was about to suggest the same.. A GoPro Hero or similar mounted up high, out of the way fits the bill - wide angle, fixed focus, can be set to start recording as soon as it is switched on and stop when switched off. I have one mounted above my workbench, so that if I disassemble something then can't remember where a wire came from..

Clive, I'd suggest a second camera that's recording all the time. You can have it pointing 45 degrees or an angle of your choice. If you choose the 'pointing at Clive' angle, we can see the facial expressions, like the time you tried methylated spirits. Just a thought. I use Sony Vegas to edit my gaming efforts for youtube. Just drop in the video and away you go. I know you like to keep the videos simple, which has kept me as a fan. All the long intro's some use, meh! Keep them coming.

Oh Clive...

Daddy Bearcat

When I did last year's live stream it was suggested I could call it Big Clive Live or a Clivestream.

Big Clive

Been thinking for a while now, you should do a live stream called Big Clive Goes Live! (pun intended)

party poppers in on the work bench or maybe I should not be giving ideas you mite try

God 420

ElectroClive ?

GL_1_Code1_1A

Clive it's like we should rename your channel to Big Bang Theory By Big Clive! lol

aside from the obvious technical issues, this did remind me of something I would love to see you experiment with. How much capacitance is required to stop flicker on mains driven led based lighting

GL_1_Code1_1A

Yes. You can see a nice clear outline where they were.

Big Clive

In hindsight I should have brought the recorded footage to Glasgow with me on the phone. As soon as I get to Glasgow I'm on the Three network with unlimited 4G data at about 20 times the upload speed of my Isle of Man connection.

Big Clive

Work should be fun. Sometimes officialdom has to be treated with the contempt it deserves.

Big Clive

It would normally require a path to ground to trip. I'm guessing it may have been the huge current anomaly.

Big Clive

although this would be great for us to view accidental carnage, its much more work for clive to heavily edit videos before uploading. Clive is one of the few youtubers I watch where I actually prefer quantity over "quality" because I like the rawness of what we get form him. And sometimes the aftermath and Clive's dry wit explanation is far more entertaining than the actual event

GL_1_Code1_1A

I hate it when stuff like that happens.

Michael Thompson

Isn't this the second time we have missed something "spectacular" due to a BC "just a moment please"? LOL. Keep the camera rolling BG...you know it makes sense.

When you're away, the computer has all the bandwidth to itself, uploading. Also, just take it to Glasgow on your mobile phone (well, it IS already on the mobile phone you record with, right?) and upload it from there. There must be a starbutts, library or friend around there, eh? aaanyways: thanks for the enterainment :)

Chris K

Not editing is cool. It's like the Japanese single stroke paintings. It's good because it isn't edited.

Nani Isobel

Next time maybe keep the camera running and cut out the bits you want to upload in post - never know when an exciting moment might happen, after all!

Finally joined the Big Clive patrons. My first Patreon contribution. I will say, Clive deserves what I have pledged. I have learned a lot from this man.....even how to not take life so seriously as an engineer and just laugh a time or two.

shoot and edit, Clive ;)

Moz in Oz

try shorting out 600 volts 3 phase

God 420

Perhaps your bench RCD tripped when you blew up your test leads?

Aaron Nadler

Definitely need to wire a dashcam up to your bench lights for unexpected excitement :)

Should make it easier to see the traces

I do love "one moment please" followed by carnage on the bench! πŸ˜‚
