Another short video from behind the scenes.

The first shows have now run and I'm just taking all the spare lights out their boxes, checking they work and then putting them back in marked as being good.  That way we can do a fairly quick swap of a light before a show if it can't be fixed in situ.  (There's a limit to work we can do above the audience while they are in for safety reasons.)

This clip is probably not going to be released for general viewing on YouTube.

Thanks for the reply mate, I don't follow all of your terminology but the language of frustration when dealing with idiocy is quite universal. :)

Thanks Clive for the behind the scenes videos, I really love them, it is always fascinating to see how things really are from the other side!

Chris Talbot: Powercon and speakon connectors are NOT interchangeable unless the plastic tabs on the male connector is mangled! If you exclude the plastic tabs on the male connectors. The male speakon 2 and speakon 4 plugs are identical to the powercon in and powercon out (blue and white male plugs respectively) The standard power connectors that we use in Denmark is CEE, Powerlock and powercon for input/output. The standard for lighting rigs is predominantly Socapex. But some companies (rental) still use 16 pin Harting for 6 channels. Some (idiotic) small rental companies even use 6 pin Harting plugs for 4 channels! I’ve even seen this setup being used WITH patch bays! 😣 Which is an explosion waiting to happen! I’m sure Big Clive is better at explaining why this is insanely dangerous!

I probably will take a look at a few of the most common connectors we use. Especially the Socapex and common Ceeform connectors.

Big Clive

Although the lights themselves have some diagnostic facilities the lighting desk operator is usually first to spot an issue with a light during a show. A full rig test is done during set-up each day.

Big Clive

Clive, it doesn't appear you have a lot down time even while the show is running. Also was wondering, with all the lighting and effects, is the "system" able to alert of a failure?

You have a fun job Clive...

From French maid to terrorist. Not sure if that's a demotion or promotion.

Kadah

Sorry, distracted by the whiteboard...what were you saying?

Rob Clark

Intimidating accent??? Gave me a chuckle. Soporific maybe but intimidating? :-)

Howard Simons

I can’t wait to watch this.. By the way Clive. Do have a video planned showing the different types of power connectors you guys use during the show. (And in the industry in general) I asked about it shortly after last years tattoo.. I.e. Bulgin, Powercon, Harting, Socapex, the different types of cables used in patch bays for PAR cans, wash and profiles etc. Oh. And I almost forgot the “good” old power XLR connectors. Cheers from Denmark!
