Unexpected repairs.
Added 2018-08-20 13:41:49 +0000 UTCI managed to break a semi-operational bedroom light in my work accommodation, simple by poking its wiring.

When I was a student living at Pollock Halls, each room had its own electricity meter which required continual feeding with 50p coins. I used to lie in bed and could hear the damn buzzing, even when I knew there was no load. I was *this* close (makes "miniscule" gesture) to contacting janitorial and demanding that they change it when I realized it was running BACKWARD and giving me a (tiny amount) of credit each night. I reckoned janitorial had enough on their hands, what with all the shoddily soldered light fittings et al
