Poundland's remote lights.

One of Poundlands "not actually a pound" products that still manages to represent very good value.

The transmitter and receiver units are textbook designs.

I got a rogue standby current reading on the transmitter in the video, it's actually extremely low. The high resistance of the meter's microamp range must have made the circuit operation unstable.

Hi Clive. I use a little "finger" of double sided circuit board filed to a wedge at one end and a test lead soldered to each side to measure current drawn in battery powered stuff. It slips in between two cells and saves needing three hands to measure current consuption.

We've had sun at the start of the run changing to high winds and rain with the temperature going up and down.

This one was bought as a novelty and used purely because it was to hand. I'm not sure I'd consider it the ideal meter for travel. It has no proper protection against mains voltage incidents, but it does at least use fairly standard pluggable leads.

I like your little travel meter. Do you have any suggestions for a good little meter? That one? I got a few little ones that are meh, but good enough for simple stuff. (DT830B that looks like a knock-off) I'd rather have a tiny one to use when the results matter more and haven't seen any.

I wonder how many of these products you tear apart have made it to the USA, into our "dollar" stores. Ever think of doing a collaboration / cross promotion with a stateside content creator?

Yes, it will very likely generate 4 separate codes for the 4 buttons. Should be easy to decode using standard libraries. Example at https://learn.adafruit.com/using-an-infrared-library/

Almost certainly - just like you can use an NEC style TV remote on any NEC code compatible TV, etc.

I note that pin 4 is pulled high on the transmitter and low on the receiver. Pinouts are otherwise compatible so it is probably the same chip/firmware in both.

Could you run mutiple sets from one remote?

Interesting. Thanks Clive. I’m wondering if the essential transmitter receiver units could be hacked for some other remote duty. Cheers from Texas.

Afternoon Clive....hope the weather up north is better than it has been back here on the “Rock”....👍🇮🇲
