Is this bassy? (speaker test)

I filmed this as the audio department was doing their daily walk-through of their speakers. In the same way we do a daily light test and placement they do their audio tests where each group of speakers is used to play a section of music while they walk round the auditorium and check they are all outputting sound.

In this case it was the test of the bass bins under the stands and the track was very bassy, so it was just the thumping bass you tend to get as you approach a fairground or carnival. But I've not got big speakers while travelling to know if my phone even caught the bass.

How does it sound on big speakers?

Yeah, there's a rumble in the background, but it's weak compared to your voice. I guess the phone doesn't have much response that low.

Sorry Clive, your (b)ASS doesn't sound big in this

Gordo

Sadly they don't use the variable pitch blade rotary subwoofers. Just traditional big-box woofers.

Big Clive

I could tell there was bass but your phone filtered it imo. Say do they use any rotary subwoofers ? IDK if they are a thing in live sound or not.

Decent headphones on: I hear some "whomping" but more than that I hear the phone's automatic gain circuit cycling. The microphones seem to be able to pick it up just enough to trigger AGC. Otherwise, all I hear is rattling structures.

My Craptop pc did not reproduce the base, I could just hear a tiny bit of pulsing I think. It is not a problem for me just a bit of feedback for you and if it helps anyone else. Lenovo G505s speakers(Conexant SmartAudio HD)

Sorry Clive, no bass in there, my sub woofer was barely troubled at all. :(

Barely hear it and Ive got a 8" woofer on my end.

No bass at all BC, sorry.

Sorry not much through that setup Clive.

I get the impression that quite a few cellphones treat any very low frequencies they hear as spurious/wind noise. I've found that IOS devices are rather more permissive/smarter (certainly in my experience when it comes to bootlegging concerts etc) but they all do a bit of it. On which topic; The Zoom H4N: https://www.zoom-na.com/products/field-video-recording/field-recording/zoom-h4n-pro-handy-recorder It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

zero bass in this video so sad wish you could capture it

Big bass doesn't fit through the little holes in phones.

B3

Damn! I'd love to convey the sound I hear. It's super-low whumping bass from huge under-stand bass bins on beefy digital amplifiers.

Big Clive

My sub is -3dB@18Hz, and there is just about zero low frequency information in this clip.

I have twin 15'' bass cabs they did not thump on this one

God 420

Couldn't hear it but think it was visible like Sam said.

Richard Boyce

Sounded like marching Orcs to me.

Jim

I... think it might be visible, though.

George Dorn

its there... but yeah phone didnt capture it as much as I am sure it was in person.

William Huckaba

No Bass... But that might have to do playing it back on my phone’s built in speakers. Edit: Even with headphones not a lot.

Lostngone

Tad bit of bass, otherwise crisp with headphones.

Yeah, I think your phone let us down on this one...no bass here either.

Bill Browning

Not really much bass at all, even on my Chunky Speakers. Sounds like someone is bashing a dustbin lid in the background.
