The Edinburgh Tattoo has a lot of large gas burners that run continually during the show. It looks good and you can also bask in their radiated heat on a cold evening.
The flame height is controlled from the lighting desk via a simple DMX relay switching solenoid valves that enable a second regulator to increase the flame size.
On extremely windy days the gas guys can override our control system to keep the gas at full so it's less likely to blow out.

And I mean that in a most polite way. :) As someone that's just a couple of months into working in the gas monitoring/leak detection and industrial safety systems industry, I would love to sit down and have a good chat with these guys... would have loved to have seen some pics of the plumbing under the castle! Ah well, maybe next year... ;)
