Amazing UV lamp.

Back at my usual bench and it feels like home already.

This video was recorded on a Moto G6 play (the G6 version with the highest resolution camera.) Audio is a bit odd. I wasn't expecting it to be stereo-ish. I'm now getting serious about a proper camera setup or at least a phone that does the job to a high standard.

Yes. But I've not really clicked with it yet. It makes things somewhat more complicated than my existing one device solution.

Did the camera ever show up?

Aliexpress links can usually be trimmed between "html" and "?", everything else encodes anxillary info which you can drop unless you really mean to keep stuff like a search history of sorts.

A7? S/R? I/II/III? I bought one for a client once (A7R I) with the caution that it might turn off recording after 30mins. Not sure if the newer ones does that though. I think there is (was?) a difference between streaming to a device (live output) and recording to memory as well. Anyways, great cameras!

I really should get back into the swing of things and re-open my online shop.

Big Clive

Wow! How clever, and a very good explanation how they work too. Thanks Clive.

Got 3 of these babies on the way. When is the BC shop re-opening?

I'm always wearing glasses that provide good protection against UVC and shrapnel.

welcome back to your home bench ... and cool bulb

As long as I can see it and as long as I can hear it it is okay with me. That being said, I also like me some gadgets, so a sidebar search for a more ideal recording solution seems on par, at least for me. Welcome back, and yeah I love me some cool wacky lamps! Best of luck on your cameraquest!

Looking forward to seeing video from a proper camera, but in general they have always been fine for me. Its more about the content than the video quality for me :)

BG, I have always found all your vids to be quite satisfactory in all aspects. I'd rather you spent your money on stuff to take to bits rather than being a professional cinematographer.

Also I notice a lot of full time youtubers tend to use discrete microphones. Like Dave jones.

Ask what AvE is using. Seems to work well for him. (Well there’s the occasional “focus you fuck” though probably wouldn’t be an issue for the style of vids you do.

Scary glowing blue glass things are the best. Speaking of which: have a 1940s teletype power supply with two mercury vapour filled thyratrons: https://hackaday.com/2018/09/08/a-switching-power-supply-1940s-style/

I like the audio !

I hope that you wear some eye protection when playing with things like this! :)

Welcome back!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who can have something in his hand one second, and have completely lost track of it the next second. I once spent a solid minute searching for the mouse that I'd just been using on the desk in front of me. Guess where it was? On the desk. Right where I'd been using it. *facepalm* It's good to have you back home, Clive.

It is a Sony I've ordered, and I'm aware of the heat issue affecting the higher resolution modes. There's going to be a bit of trial and error, and a possibility that the camera may just be used as a high quality imaging device feeding an external recorder.

Big Clive

I've been giving that serious consideration, but my previous experiences of Apple's manufacturing quality have held me back.

If it's a mirrorless camera I'm guessing it's either sony or olympus, nikon's are a bit weird, and the others aren't has highly praised from what I've seen. I personally have a Sony a6300, beautiful camera, but be warned, mirrorless cameras (at least as far as sony's are concerned) while they take amazing video, can overheat easily. Your videos are short, you'll probably be fine, but if you're using a 4k mode or high framerate 1080p it can get toasty before the factory video timer runs out. At the same time a mirrorless camera is perfect because it'd allow you to get some macro lenses and get up close when you want to without using zoom, and it's not even too difficult with mirrorless to attach microscope lenses directly!

How about an iPhone? They have excellent cameras. Some of the best in the industry.

Go to bed, Clive. Now!
