Emergency light update.

CPC discovered the video I made about the slightly disappointing emergency light and took a sample into their own test facility, then removed them from stock.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9xmXuZ9XDs

Although they test their own branded products in-house they don't test all items supplied by UK importers because they expect them to supply goods built to UK standards.

The original video will not be released until the issue has been resolved, but will remain visible here.

Emergency light update.

Yeah, I got that recall message too. It feels a bit squirmy causing something like this.

Nice to see a retailer taking prompt action when notified of a problem. Suspect the other supplier initially may have supplied compliant components with batteries and such, then just changed them at some point without telling anyone to save money, figuring nobody would check. And they would have got away with it too, if not for that meddling Big Clive! Pity the installers that bought them and installed them in highly inaccessible places without testing first...

The Griffiths Family

It will be interesting if they keep you up-to-date on how they are handling the supplier.

The other one smelled of what Chris aVe would call chinesium.

I hope they offered you a hefty bribe. You wouldn't accept it of course.... Nicely done both you and CPC.

Are they putting out a bulletin and alerting anyone who may have bought one? The problem here is that they don't appear deadly till there's a power cut and a total blackout.

Good shout, well done big guy, feel a bit better about CPC now!

The Tinkering Shed

I think through hole components would be good for repairability in less developed countries. And compared to SMD it is able to handle more power and higher voltages, although that should not really be an issue heren.

Wow! What a difference in the contents from the tacky ones!

Good outcome all round. Satisfying.

That's fantastic news, hopefully CPC/Farnell will give a proper look at things they supply now. It'll be interesting to see if they issue a recall notice for ones they sold, given they're no where near up to spec, or the expectation people will have of them.

You made the world just a little bit better there. Thumbs up!

Every once in a while, I regain a bit of faith in the Internet. This is one of those times. Thanks for a pick-me-up that I desperately needed!

No probs. Their managing director called me and was very polite and chatty.

Good on them; glad you get the feedback that confirms your contribution. "Sit back and have a cold one my friend, you've earned it!" — Stumpy Nubbs

I'm sure they will Jeffery. In my opinion CPC are a good outfit.

Quite old school seeing all those through hole components. I wonder how long this design has been in production for?

Clive, it was me who emailed CPC and warned them. I like CPC a lot and did not want them to lose their in my opinion good reputation. I hope I did not get you in 'the shit'.

Nuts 'n' Proud

That's how it should be done. We'll done CPC.

That's cool! Big Clive GET!

This is how a company SHOULD respond to an issue like this. Failures in the supply chain can happen, it's often just not financially feasible to check and test for everything. A responsible company understands this when notified of a potential issue and doesn't try to suppress it and hide it. The only other question is, do they notify those who purchased the defective light.

Very responsible of them. I hope they give the supplier a rocket.
