Inside a modern linear light.

I think the main selling point of this light is that it uses Samsung LEDs.  It came from a prominent UK seller, so I'd guess they probably are the real thing.

After that it looks very typical of a modern LED light, with the notable feature of a case that manages to combine the white reflective plastic and the diffuser in a single immaculate extrusion.

Ha! Y'all CAN say Aluminum the way we do. I heard it just before you corrected yourself! :)

I don't think so. It may be to help bypass voltage spikes that the inductor tries to block at risk of insulation failure. Not sure.

Big Clive

Could the resistor be across the inductor merely to help quench it when the power is removed like with a cap or more accurately the coil of a relay?

Michael Thompson

Thanks Clive. Have you thought of using one of those inspection mirrors on a stick let the camera see items that are too long to fit the bench? I have an idea - printing a cropped photo like you do for PCBs?

Nuts 'n' Proud

Were you tempted to buy anything?

Big Clive

Haven’t had a chance to catch up on YouTube as I’m travelling around the UK on holidays (all the way from Australia) BUT I’ve finally managed to duck my head into a Poundland!

Rob Googe

I got these from CPC which is part of the Farnel Element14 group, so they are pretty much worldwide.

A thermocouple on the internal aluminium strip went to 61C. They get quite hot, but not too hot.

So clicking over to the european manufacturer's site (they're in Bulgaria) it looks like the Samsung link is some kind of partnership, there's an entire catalog at https://www.v-tac.eu/images/catalog/vtac-samsung-catalogue.pdf complete with quotes from Samsung marketing folks. Products look pretty nice and well-made, almost so I have to check if I can source them here in not-UK.

This is just what I'm after for under a shelf above my bench so this video is extremely timely. I'll need two 300mm ones due to shelf brackets but, as you say, CPC do those too. Do they run hot or just warm?

Drive safe if you're driving. If watching my videos doesn't knock you out then I recommend typing solitaire into Google on your phone. Playing that always helps me sleep.

Big Clive

I am so sorry folks. Been awake +29 hours and tried to watch this video but Clives dulcet tones sent me to the land of nod. Think that it time to head to bedford and hope that my little snooze hasn't cursed me because I really need to get some proper sleep! From Donegal, goodnight! Edit......had the previous pateron video open and typed the above into the comment section for it instead of this one.
