Solar powered floating fountain.

This was suggested by Mikeselectricstuff.  It's a floating fountain that pumps water at surprisingly low light levels.

I didn't get into it as far as I wanted to, because the two main electronic modules are potted in black resin to protect them from water ingress.

Clive, I think it's time to construct your own X-ray machine ;-)

Gordo

I'm sticking with the Moto G6. It isn't perfect, but it makes up for it with a sharp image. I'm getting suspicious that most of the ultra high resolution camera phones may be cheating figures.

Not digging the new camera, the audio is weird, think the range on the mic is limited, maybe try a plug-in lavellier or something?

The Tinkering Shed

The focus, on a 65" tv is horrible, compared to the Moto G6.

I've not done a proper acetone soak test on resin. I should give that a go.

When Mike first mentioned the pulsing effect it did make me think of solarbotics and the BEAM robots.

the one at https://makerknife.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders maybe?

Hey Clive, random question for you - in a recent vid you had a new utility knife that looked quite handy, I could use something similar for work. What was it called so I could get one for myself?

Chewie

Have you tried softening the potting compound by putting it in boiling water for 10 minutes or leaving it to soak in acetone?

The audio caught me by surprise as it was coming from the center channel of my surround setup. I actually went in to check the settings! I noticed the focus never got that sharp as well.

We had something similar in a bird bath and it suffered the same fate. Ours also required algae cleaning on a regular basis or it would gunk up and stop.

I had about 23-25 of these things I got from a liquidator for like $5 about 2 years ago. I have 1 left. These things really don't like being left outside and exposed to water. Most common failure was the resin layer delaminating from the pv cells and letting water in; about 80% of them failed this way. The rest I didn't bother to find out why they stopped and I took a shotgun to them before interring the remains in the trash. They also tended to get clogged up with algae when they were working and that would stall the pump pretty quickly.

This doesn't seem to have enough oomph to keep water-borne insects at bay in a pond but it looks nice and compact for a birdbath maybe

The pulsed output of your LED test makes me think of a "solar engine" circuit from BEAM robotics, using a voltage detector to control the charge/discharge of a large capacitor. It does pretty well at running loads like DC motors from relatively small solar cells.

It definitely has a close focus issue. The old Moto G6 blows it out the water.

Interesting...Seems Project-able...Also, Yes The Video Is A Bit Pixelated.

We’ve had one of these for awhile. I’m not sure how it’s going to stand up to the Oklahoma sun. I can already see the solar panels beginning to discolor. Good to see the bits without having to destroy the wife’s fountain.
