Poundland Pifco Penny Pinching.

Back at my usual bench with the reincarnation of one of my favourite hacking lamps of all time.  Now branded PIfco and with a slight penny pinching annoyance.  No problem to us though.

In the video I modify a lamp with a simple resistive dropper well suited to the generous array of six-chip LEDs to make a lamp that you can leave on 24/7 without worrying about the electricity cost or lamp-life.  I reckon the lamp could last at least 10 years or even longer before components start to age.  In those ten years it would cost just a couple of dollars/pounds in electricity usage.

OR a bathroom vanity in the middle of the night.

Nice. It's also easier on the eyes that way, much like the early CFL's that took close to 5 minutes to get to full intensity (which in a bedroom, first thing in the morning, is welcome).

Dustin

I quite like it myself. And with the resistor hack it also dims on as well.

Am I the only one who actually LIKES when an LED lamp fades to black rather than decisively shutting off? I mean I wouldn't want the phantom glow effect, but that fade to black makes them seem, to me at least, more like the old big-filament incandescent lamps cooling off (like a big ol' 100W lamp).

Great to see you back at your home bench. And your hands are almost complexly mended.

Lazy bastard glued. Love it. Enjoyed this one. Learned something. Good to see you back at home bench and familiar skid marks!

Good to see you back in your natural habitat.
