OTOH they locked cgp grey out of his channel for a few days stating he was impersonating cgp grey. YouTube seems to care less and less about creators that provide content with actual value.

Although an icon I never pay attention to, it does make me wonder why they didn't consider a means that doesn't affect current verified channels. As the current icon is grey, a better idea would be to offer a different icon colour for the more stringent criteria, i.e. Looking for a celebrity or corporate YouTube channel? Look for gold icons. Looking for a verified YouTuber? Look for the grey icons (as present).

AFAIK Youtube, like all Google services, is in the position where it can do whatever it likes and it'll still be the most popular platform etc... Like our inability to see ratings of videos BEFORE clicking on them and the fact that you can put your own thumbnail which blatantly allows false images (Clickbait) to con the whole world... They say you can appeal, but if you get YT's usual response don't hold your breath. Interesting that big channels like Techmoan and Itchy Boots all appear as unverified, not sure if that's a recent change but they seem to do OK

YouTube are absolute arse-holes. Another creator that I support regularly gets copyright violation notices for royalty free music that somebody has pinched and claims as his own after some modifications to it. Cripes, he even got a notice about some free music he used from the YT library. Another video platform would be delighted to get BC's channel and a move would be in order.

From what I've read it seems they may not actually have taken it off you yet, they have just announced that they are going to, and you have a right of appeal. I agree with others above that it seems like an appeal would be successful. I hope so.

With the new guidelines your channel is still verify-able tho. They require that you’re known and been talked about in news which you already have been. Just counter the mail they sent you and you should be fine :)

For me they hit me hard when they removed monetisation from my account, I had plenty of hours watched so they removed it as I had just below 1000 subscribers. It wasn't the money that I missed as it was only about £30/month or so. The hit was the don't care attitude from them. They just drew a line and cut people off. I've barely uploaded a video in the last year because of that.

Was watching a live stream from Louis Rossmann a few days ago where he was trying to get more subs than another user (Eli The Computer Guy). All that was on screen was the sub count for both, going up and down and some shite YT music on in the background. Have you considered alternative portals? Someday I believe "they" will have tilted the deck so steeply that your channel will be marginalized.

Youtube had added a lot of valur to people's lives, however it's a terrible concern that the world entrusts so much of its cultural record to one corporation, and their seemingly arbitrary decicions over things like this is just another reason why.

It wasn't even video back then. Just a few pictures. These days the same incident would have been caught on video.

I was curious if there were direct officially documented effects to do with verification. We can all agree that YouTube is a concept like the "Discovery channel", the "history channel", and all major news channels. They are going for the mass market, not the hyperfocused. YouTube became a hit because any Tom, Dick, or Clive could set up shop and make interesting content. But that content is hard to monitor and monitize. So they will make little changes like this to keep shifting thier focus to the watered down idiot box that is commercial television.

Not really surprising, YouTube has been moving more and more to focus only on the platform superstars like Casey neistat, Marques Brownlee, and that silly gamer guy and such. I don’t think it’s possible to replicate their success any more starting from scratch on YouTube anymore without heavy duty marketing and being willing to upload hours of content for years without monetizing now. Doesn’t matter, we love your content and hopefully there are still other ways to go after imitators.
