Channel verification removal by YouTube.
Added 2019-09-19 23:04:14 +0000 UTCYouTube have just informed me that my channel verification will be removed shortly as it will now only be used for important people and organisations like celebrities and big companies.
To me it did feel quite important as it made it harder for people to put up clones of my channel. (Which happened to me just before 100,000 subscribers.)
There are times I just get a little bit jaded about YouTube and its red tape department.
Comments
OTOH they locked cgp grey out of his channel for a few days stating he was impersonating cgp grey. YouTube seems to care less and less about creators that provide content with actual value.

2019-09-27 07:42:07 +0000 UTCClive I saw a comment on by Dave Jones of EEVblog "I survived "the purge" and got an email saying I'd keep mine. But a few days back the Youtube CEO caved and said everyone who had verification previously would now keep it. " End quote.

2019-09-27 00:31:20 +0000 UTCWe won! I think. You just need to prove who you are and that you are not some BigClive imposter.

2019-09-22 08:07:59 +0000 UTCScrew YouTube, out of Johnny Depp and Big Clive I know who is more famous in my living room
2019-09-22 03:21:38 +0000 UTCBarnacules Nerdgasm was talking about it and in less than 24 hours YouTube changed it

2019-09-21 22:59:21 +0000 UTCI just got email from YouTube that they’re backpedaling on their changes. Clive will keep his verification.

2019-09-21 17:13:28 +0000 UTCJordan B Peterson has 2.28m subscribers ... no verification. If they take it away, your followers won't disappear and your following will still increase. Good content will always trump any other criteria.
2019-09-21 05:31:06 +0000 UTCSeen this??? "We won! YouTube is letting us keep our channel verified status" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QF4PN0V74Jk

2019-09-21 01:19:18 +0000 UTCAlthough an icon I never pay attention to, it does make me wonder why they didn't consider a means that doesn't affect current verified channels. As the current icon is grey, a better idea would be to offer a different icon colour for the more stringent criteria, i.e. Looking for a celebrity or corporate YouTube channel? Look for gold icons. Looking for a verified YouTuber? Look for the grey icons (as present).

2019-09-20 19:01:46 +0000 UTCAFAIK Youtube, like all Google services, is in the position where it can do whatever it likes and it'll still be the most popular platform etc... Like our inability to see ratings of videos BEFORE clicking on them and the fact that you can put your own thumbnail which blatantly allows false images (Clickbait) to con the whole world... Oh well, we'll follow you if you decide to 'reverse engineer' Youtube in the future...
Stephen Eyles
2019-09-20 16:23:56 +0000 UTCThey say you can appeal, but if you get YT's usual response don't hold your breath. Interesting that big channels like Techmoan and Itchy Boots all appear as unverified, not sure if that's a recent change but they seem to do OK

2019-09-20 15:27:32 +0000 UTCYouTube are absolute arse-holes. Another creator that I support regularly gets copyright violation notices for royalty free music that somebody has pinched and claims as his own after some modifications to it. Cripes, he even got a notice about some free music he used from the YT library. Another video platform would be delighted to get BC's channel and a move would be in order.
2019-09-20 14:04:56 +0000 UTCFrom what I've read it seems they may not actually have taken it off you yet, they have just announced that they are going to, and you have a right of appeal. I agree with others above that it seems like an appeal would be successful. I hope so.
2019-09-20 10:20:11 +0000 UTCVariety did a bit on it, your not alone. Yet I'd say reading the article you/your channel hit all the issues. Appeal . https://variety.com/2019/digital/news/youtube-verification-channels-update-1203342166/

2019-09-20 10:02:53 +0000 UTCClive.... your channel has given me a new lease of LIFE ! Whatever u do... KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, PLEASE ! SHAME ON YOUTUBE. Clive... putting it simple: You have a loyal and dedicated following. I am one of your many silent Peatrons of it and will be so until they nail my cardbox box closed and slide it the oven. Albert
2019-09-20 07:46:42 +0000 UTCIt's a shame. To me you're important and a celebrity! At least now I know the channels to avoid...the ones with ticks on! They'll be the dumb, loud, uninformed, gamer, twatosphere type channels full of the same ditritus you get on TV.

2019-09-20 07:46:02 +0000 UTCThese fucktards obviously don't know who you are big guy, get your agent on to them ;-)

2019-09-20 07:09:01 +0000 UTCI'm keeping other hosts for my videos in mind. Patreon seem to have partnered with Vimeo.

2019-09-20 06:00:55 +0000 UTCI really don't think anyone here watches those channels already.
Stefan Kent
2019-09-20 05:43:10 +0000 UTCI've only been on YouTube for 13 years, so I didn't really understand what the verification was about. YouTube member Styxhexenhammer went into a fair bit of detail describing the criteria YouTube WAS using and IS NOW using to verify channels: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpKuiCbcjv4
Chris Blair
2019-09-20 05:13:42 +0000 UTCWith the new guidelines your channel is still verify-able tho. They require that you’re known and been talked about in news which you already have been. Just counter the mail they sent you and you should be fine :)

2019-09-20 05:12:49 +0000 UTCyeah.... not. Time to change trains maybe? Go to vimeo or run your own peertube instance?

2019-09-20 02:55:12 +0000 UTCNot just you, another channel I watch got the same notice today....
2019-09-20 02:39:12 +0000 UTCMaybe a quick video is in order so that people know why it'll disappear
Jonathan Brown
2019-09-20 02:06:36 +0000 UTCReally shows the bottom-line value for them. Booooo.
2019-09-20 01:55:06 +0000 UTCFor me they hit me hard when they removed monetisation from my account, I had plenty of hours watched so they removed it as I had just below 1000 subscribers. It wasn't the money that I missed as it was only about £30/month or so. The hit was the don't care attitude from them. They just drew a line and cut people off. I've barely uploaded a video in the last year because of that.

2019-09-20 01:33:54 +0000 UTCClive just move over to Dailymotion.
2019-09-20 01:07:57 +0000 UTCWas watching a live stream from Louis Rossmann a few days ago where he was trying to get more subs than another user (Eli The Computer Guy). All that was on screen was the sub count for both, going up and down and some shite YT music on in the background. This is how YouTube works and how the world will eventually end........two uploaders fighting for the souls of the world. Clive, fuck it - as popular as you are, there are always going to be bigger YT dick sucking streams. Don't forget, you'll always be tops with us real fans
John Carr
2019-09-20 01:06:54 +0000 UTCWell... If it shows up on Patreon, I watch it. Youtube subscriptions & such have been failing for a while now. But, I get an email when the GOOD stuff gets published.

2019-09-20 00:38:30 +0000 UTCError: Big Clive = Important person. Their AI bots must have a bug.

2019-09-20 00:16:39 +0000 UTCWell, you are still important to me!

2019-09-20 00:04:09 +0000 UTCHave you considered alternative portals? Someday I believe "they" will have tilted the deck so steeply that your channel will be marginalized.
2019-09-20 00:03:48 +0000 UTCYoutube had added a lot of valur to people's lives, however it's a terrible concern that the world entrusts so much of its cultural record to one corporation, and their seemingly arbitrary decicions over things like this is just another reason why.
2019-09-19 23:59:12 +0000 UTCIt wasn't even video back then. Just a few pictures. These days the same incident would have been caught on video.
Big Clive
2019-09-19 23:57:21 +0000 UTCMaybe it is time to switch to your own hosting or app ! There are many alternatives
2019-09-19 23:55:01 +0000 UTCI don't understand why they bother to remove the verification. If it has already been verified, what more effort is needed to keep it?
Nani Isobel
2019-09-19 23:47:50 +0000 UTCOf course they are Clive, that makes perfect non-sense which are the rules by which Youtube operate!
Chewie
2019-09-19 23:47:43 +0000 UTCForgive my ignorance but does this mean YouTube may in future recommend a fake BC channel to me? And will you be slapping copyright watermarks on everything? Btw I always thought your notepad could be compiled into a nice little book, a perfect present for folk like me
Demolished Man
2019-09-19 23:46:20 +0000 UTCThat sucks :(
2019-09-19 23:44:53 +0000 UTCI thought Big Clive was famous? Whatever - Illegitimi non carborundum
Keith Miller
2019-09-19 23:44:31 +0000 UTCPretty sure Clive is talking about the channel verification badge, not user account verification: https://youtube-creators.googleblog.com/2019/09/updates-to-youtubes-verification-program.html
2019-09-19 23:40:30 +0000 UTCI was curious if there were direct officially documented effects to do with verification. Unfortunately, if YouTube is believed, it's real power comes in letting you upload videos longer than 15min. https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/71673 It's so interesting how I came to YouTube because I hated how much television sucked, and how there was a complete lack of independent content and creators. Wonder how YouTube thinks their desperate crawl towards the ways of old media is going to shake out.
2019-09-19 23:31:09 +0000 UTCIt’s ok Clive. I still believe your are real.
Sam Yates
2019-09-19 23:27:31 +0000 UTCI think the issu e might be a logic thing.... you're both a celebrity AND a company.... so the algorithm couldn't cope? I've been here since the 'dude on the powerlinees video it's not snuff honest' low res video on the actual website...days... (yes it took me embarassingly long to figure out that big clive was also this big clive.... YOUTUBE is run by idiots
Chipmunk
2019-09-19 23:26:03 +0000 UTCWe can all agree that YouTube is a concept like the "Discovery channel", the "history channel", and all major news channels. They are going for the mass market, not the hyperfocused. YouTube became a hit because any Tom, Dick, or Clive could set up shop and make interesting content. But that content is hard to monitor and monitize. So they will make little changes like this to keep shifting thier focus to the watered down idiot box that is commercial television.
Witold Witkowski
2019-09-19 23:19:03 +0000 UTCI'm sorry Clive. It's got to be hard sometimes.
Michael Thompson
2019-09-19 23:17:28 +0000 UTCmaybe every one should stop watching videos on the " verified" channels
God 420
2019-09-19 23:17:21 +0000 UTCHis channel isn't unverified yet. He said 'shortly', and you can see the checkmark is still on his channel at this current time. Chances are the e-mails are being sent out in waves.

2019-09-19 23:15:29 +0000 UTCAlso, i visited a poundland in april when i was in the UK. And they didn't have that screwdriver, or any nice electronical thingies. Maybe it the store was to small, it was somewhere in London.
Andreas
2019-09-19 23:15:21 +0000 UTCSeems like a bad move by YouTube :\
2019-09-19 23:14:58 +0000 UTCI still try to get the logic behind that. Why not create a new additional systems for those "Huge famous" channels with celebrities and such, and give them an additional badge. Maybe we can implement our own system. The Poundland Screwdriver Badge.
Andreas
2019-09-19 23:14:22 +0000 UTCYoutube is pulling some real dick moves of late :o/
2019-09-19 23:12:40 +0000 UTCWondering how I slipped under the radar... My channel wasn't unverified.

2019-09-19 23:12:09 +0000 UTCNo, it just means he is less protected towards people copying his work or pretending to be him.

2019-09-19 23:11:02 +0000 UTCIt's been happening to a lot of YouTubers...
Phr3d13
2019-09-19 23:10:25 +0000 UTCNot really surprising, YouTube has been moving more and more to focus only on the platform superstars like Casey neistat, Marques Brownlee, and that silly gamer guy and such. I don’t think it’s possible to replicate their success any more starting from scratch on YouTube anymore without heavy duty marketing and being willing to upload hours of content for years without monetizing now. Doesn’t matter, we love your content and hopefully there are still other ways to go after imitators.

2019-09-19 23:08:43 +0000 UTCYouTube's own channel also had it's verification removed, so it seems it's happened to everyone? https://www.youtube.com/user/YouTube Either way, seems like a good time to set up a fake youtube channel on youtube
